Fan signs are nothing new at professional wrestling shows, with plenty being seen on TV week to week between WWE’s and AEW’s numerous shows. However, modern fans have not been shy about sharing their opinions about video games while at these shows, reflecting the love for gaming among fans and wrestlers. The most recent episode ofAEWDynamitesaw one fan make a statement some players may consider a bold one, sayingFinal Fantasy 14is actually better thanFinal Fantasy 6.

Final Fantasy 14has had a long and complicated life since it was first released asFinal Fantasy 14 Onlinein 2010 to a largely negative response and a rapidly dwindling player base after a strong start. The game managed to make a resurgence with 2013’sA Realm Reborn: Final Fantasy 14, effectively rebooting the game from the ground up with revamped gameplay, improved server function, and a new game engine. It has since seen four major expansions release to build on this successful reboot, the most recent being 2021’sEndwalker.

A Final Fantasy 14 player says the game is better than Final Fantasy 6 with their sign at AEW Dynamite.

As mentioned above, an avid fan ofFinal Fantasy 14got to share their opinion of the MMO with their sign on the Blood and Guts edition ofAEWDynamitein Detroit, Michigan. A camera managed to catch the fan and their sign during the entrance of wrestler Orange Cassidy, now sporting Jefferson Starship’sJaneas his entrance music. The fan made no bones about their thoughts regarding theFinal Fantasyseries, saying they feltFinal Fantasy 14is better thanFinal Fantasy 6, one of the most revered titles in Square Enix’s cornerstone series.

Final Fantasy 6was originally released in 1994 as the sixth main entry in the series, though it was released in the U.S. at the time asFinal Fantasy 3. It was notable because it was the first entry in the series to leave behind the medieval fantasy aesthetic of the first five games, instead dropping players into a steampunk world inspired by the Second Industrial Revolution. Players led a band of 14 playable characters in a rebellion against a cruel military dictatorship, the Gestahl Empire, which was draining the world of its life source to feed its own ambition. The game was met with critical acclaim at release and is widely regarded as one of the greatest video games ever made.

As bold a claim as the sign may make, it is hardly the first time players have gotten signs with similarly bold messages onto AEW’s weekly TV show. One such sign was seen back in May taking aim at theSuper Smash Bros.series, saying it wasn’t a fighting game series. Plenty of other signs have been seen over AEW’s first three years on TV talking about games likeBloodborne,Kingdom Hearts, andPokemon, while plenty more are likely to find their way onto TV in the future.

Final Fantasy 14is currently available on Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
