During the AI PC Innovation Summit that was held in Beijing on March 21,AMDrevealed the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F. These two processors, which lack integrated graphics like other SKUs with an F suffix, were initially only available in China, but AMD has apparently started to supply them worldwide.

Dedicated product pages for the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F on AMD’s website showed that the two chips launched on April 1 and have become available globally. However, these CPUs can only be obtained by OEMs like pre-built computer makers, media outletWccftechreported. AMD made a similar move when it released the Ryzen 5 7500F worldwide through system integrators. It should be noted that theRyzen 5 7500F ended up becoming available as a standalone CPUin the US and Europe.

The Ryzen 7 8700F, with its 8 cores and 16 threads, can boost up to 5 GHz. Meanwhile, the 6-core, 12-thread Ryzen 5 8400F peaks at 4.7 GHz. Both CPUs have a default TDP of 65 watts and are based on AMD’s current-generation Zen 4 microarchitecture, which also powers some ofAMD’s best gaming CPUslike the Ryzen 9 7950X3D. The product pages for the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F do not mention prices, but the former is expected to be cheaper than the Ryzen 7 8700G that it closely resembles.

AMD confirmed in a previous earnings call that processors based on its next-generation Zen 5 microarchitecture are scheduled to reach the consumer market during the second half of 2024. While company president and CEO Lisa Su has told investors that these chips will deliver significant performance and efficiency gains, AMD has yet to officially disclose any details regarding them. Hardware industry leakers, however, have claimed that the upcomingZen 5 CPUs will be 40% faster than their Zen 4 counterpartsin specific workloads.

Leakers also said thatZen 5 processors have already entered mass production, specifically the Granite Ridge series of desktop chips. Aside from Granite Ridge,AMD’s Zen 5 will introduce new offerings for the light mobile, extreme mobile, server, and enthusiast/workstation markets that are codenamed Strix Point, Dragon Range, Turin, and Shimada Peak, respectively.
