Since its launch in early 2019,Apex Legendshas grown to become one of the most popular battle royale games in the world. The popular hero-based shooter recently kicked off its twelfth competitive season with a new limited-time mode, a new look for the game’s popular Olympus map, and the release of the game’snewest playable character Mad Maggie. Alongside the plethora of new content announced for the new season, Respawn Entertainment and EA have also been developing a mobile version of the game with a recent announcement revealing that fans won’t have to wait much longer.A mobile version ofApex Legendshas been in the works since early last year with Respawn officially confirming a version of the game would be coming to Android and iOS devices through regional beta tests. While many fans expected a mobile version in line with its contemporaries likeFortniteandPUBG: Battlegrounds, game director Chad Grenier previously confirmed that the battle royale’s arrival to mobile devices would be a “new version” designed and optimized for touchscreen controls. Now, following several beta testing periods, EA announced a limited regional launch to come next week for the highly-anticipatedApex Legends Mobile.RELATED:Apex Legends Leak Hints at Free For All Game ModeA news release fromApex Legendson Wednesday officially confirms thatApex Legends Mobilewill launchin 10 select regions next week with more to be added following the regional launch. The initial launch will be limited to players in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, and Colombia and is expected to remain limited through Spring. During the limited regional launch, players will be able to choose from a curated selection ofApex’s roster with fan-favorites like Wraith, Caustic, and Bloodhound included.
In the announcement post, Respawn also revealed some other limitations for players in those regions looking to drop into the action beforethe mobile version’s global launch. Because of the game’s positioning as a mobile-only optimized version,Apex Legends Mobilewill not feature cross-play with the PC or console versions. Due to the technical constraints of the game,Apex Legends Mobilewill also not be supported on Android devices with less than 3GB of RAM and on iOS devices with less than 2 GB RAM.
AsApex Legendsmoves into 2022, Respawn and EA have given long-time fans of the game plenty to look forward to throughout the year. Not only is the mobile version nearing its launch, the developers have also been working on Xbox Series X/S andPS5 versions ofApex Legendswith recent leaks suggesting the PS5 version has already been added to the PlayStation Network’s database. Between new content and new ways to experience the chaotic mayhem ofApex Legends, the popular shooter will look to continue its dominance throughout 2022.
