Ketheric Thorm
AmongBaldur’s Gate 3’sprimary antagonists are the “Chosen Three,” a group of three Chosen representing the gods of death - Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul. The first of these encountered by the party isKetheric Thorm, who rules the Shadow-Cursed Lands from his seat at Moonrise Towers. A deeply sorrowful man, Thorm previously worshiped the moon goddess Selune before losing his beloved wife and daughter. He, along with the avatar of his god, Myrkul, is fought in the final battle ofBaldur’s Gate 3’s second Act.
Enver Gortash
Somewhat erroneously described as “a handsome young man with an easy smile,“Lord Enver Gortashis a tyrannical figure who wishes to rule all of Baldur’s Gate. In Act 3 of the game, he uses his Flaming Fist soldiers and mechanical Steel Watch to kill or kidnap many of the city’s nobility and install himself as Archduke. Although Bane does not interfere as directly in the fight as Myrkul does with Ketheric Thorm, the battle against Gortash can be one of the game’s trickiest due to his liberal use of traps.
Orin the Red
Bhaal, Lord of Murder, is one of the most active gods in theBaldur’s Gategames, as he encourages his children - the deadly Bhaalspawn - to spread murder and chaos throughout Faerun. As ofBaldur’s Gate 3,his latest Chosen is the unstable, violence-lovingOrin the Red, a changeling who torments the player by shapeshifting into various characters around the city and potentially kidnapping one of their party members. Finding Orin’s underground lair is tricky, but defeating her nets players the valuable paired weapons Crimson Mischief and Bloodthirst.
The Dark Urge
Baldur’s Gate 3players can even become a Chosen themselves by making certain choices when playing as the “Dark Urge” character. Late in the game’s story, the Dark Urge is revealed to be a Bhaalspawn, and has the option to duel Orin the Red one-on-one for their godly father’s favorite. ADark Urgewho successfully defeats Orin and agrees to willingly serve Bhaal replaces her in the Chosen role, even getting the option to give control of the entire Absolute cult and its Netherbrain ruler to the Lord of Murder.
Elminster Aumar
Unlike the “Dead Three,” Mystra, Goddess of Magic, is known to take on many Chosen rather than limiting herself to a single one. One of her longest-standing Chosen isElminster Aumar, a recurring character in various Forgotten Realms properties and one of the most powerful magic users in the setting. Elminster plays a relatively small role inBaldur’s Gate 3,where - should players recruit his fellow Chosen Gale - he shows up at the player’s camp to pass on Mystra’s rather extreme thoughts regarding how to defeat the Cult of the Absolute for good.
Gale Dekarios
At the start of the game,Galeis technically considered a former Chosen, having been cast out by Mystra after tampering with dangerous forbidden magic. However, he previously served as one of her Chosen for several years, even entering a romantic relationship with her in the process. Depending on the player’s choices, Gale can either decide to prove himself, hoping to earn Mystra’s approval and serve as her Chosen once more, or abandon his devotion to the Goddess of Magic and his post as her Chosen entirely.
Shadowheart
The mysterious clericShadowheartfaithfully serves Shar, the Lady of Loss. If players choose to support her in her devotion, she can perform the necessary act to become a Dark Justiciar in a quest appropriately named “The Chosen of Shar.” Should she lose her faith in Shar, Shadowheart may instead wind up serving the moon goddess Selune, but she does not explicitly become Selune’s Chosen as she does Shar’s.
Possible Chosen
There are also several characters inBaldur’s Gate 3who are not officially confirmed as Chosen, but may be or have been due to their power levels and connection with their gods.
Kith’rak Voss & Lae’zel:The githyanki ruler Vlaakith does not have an official Chosen, because she is a lich-queen rather than a god. However, her kith’rak - the highest-ranking soldiers - are given special gifts, including red dragon mounts.Kith’rak Vossis an NPC who plays a key part in the gith-focused elements of the story, while party member Lae’zel can ascend to kith’rak status depending on player choices.

Sarevok:Sarevok Anchev is a particularly vicious Bhaalspawn and a returning character fromBaldur’s GateandBaldur’s Gate 2.Once Bhaal’s favored son, Sarevok now leads the Murder Tribunal who judge potential Bhaalist cult members. Whether Sarevok was ever considered Bhaal’s Chosen remains a point of debate among fans of theBaldur’s Gateseries.
Dame Aylin & Isobel:Dame Aylinthe aasimar paladin is the daughter of the moon goddess Selune, while Aylin’s lover Isobel is a powerful cleric in Selune’s service. Neither is officially referred to as a Chosen, but both are powerful enough and close enough to Selune that they could easily hold such a key position within the Selunite ranks.

Viconia DeVir:Like Sarevok, Viconia is a returning character from previousBaldur’s Gategames. She is the Mother Superior of the Sharran Order and oversaw Shadowheart’s training. Whether she was Chosen is unconfirmed, but she was highly favored by her goddess and Shadowheart must defeat her to obtain the Chosen role.
