Since the start of March 2022,Amazon Lunahas been available for people based in the United States. Focusing on cloud gaming,Luna offers a variety of channelswith their own prices and selection of titles, allowing people to pick and choose a category that best fits their needs.
One of these channels is fueled byAmazon Luna’s partnership with Ubisoft+, asubscription servicethat has been on the market for several years. Best Games On Amazon Luna’s Ubisoft+ Channel
Putting aside spin-offs, there are five mainlineAssassin’s Creedgames on Amazon Luna:Unity,Syndicate,Origins,Odyssey, andValhalla. The former two represent the franchise’s old ways of doing things, and they are both very good games in their own right.Originssignaled a new era for Ubisoft’s license, one defined by more fluid combat, a heavier emphasis on loot, and the gradual increase of RPG elements.OdysseyandValhallabuild upon the ideas introduced inOrigins, and a person’s favored entry is likely to come down to whether they prefer Ancient Egypt, Greece, or the Viking Age (aka the Dark Ages).
That’s not to say these games are copies of each other outside their settings, but they do deliver similar overall experiences.Odysseyis slightly more fine-tuned thanOrigins, and it is also less bloated thanValhalla. As always, the game presents a gorgeous and immersive world, comfortably one of Ubisoft’s best to date. The writing is also generally quite good, with even the side quests being an improvement over previous entries in the franchise.
Ubisoft has a few heavy hitters that are forever in rotation. Usually, there is always aFar Cry,Assassin’s Creed, orTom Clancygame on the horizon, which is justified since these franchises are clearly successful. That said, Ubisoft does occasionally try out a new IP, and the company has a pretty good track record when it comes to these singular releases.
Immortals Fenyx Risingtakes the typical Ubisoft open-world and streamlines it, opting to eliminate most of the fluff content in favor of a more digestible and less life-consuming overall package. Inspired by Greek mythology and sharing acouple of similarities withThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,Immortalsis a fun action-packed epic that offers fast-paced combat and gorgeous visuals.
Released in 2003,Beyond Good & Evilhit a home run with critics but fell short of commercial expectations, however, positive word of mouth gradually cemented its place as a cult classic. Ambitious and forward-thinking, this title has a sense of adventure to it that few games from any era can match, and it comes with great characters, a fully realized world, and an effective central storyline.
Although certain elements like the combat are a bit janky,Beyond Good & Evilgenerally holds up quite well in most areas, including the visuals. While there are certainly more successful releases available in the channel,Beyond Good & Evilis one of thebest Ubisoft gamesever.
On Metacritic,Far Cry 6is the lowest-rated main entry in the franchise, but that does not paint the full picture. Critically, Ubisoft’s license has been on a downward spiral ever since the release of the third game, and that is partially due to fatigue rather than a direct reflection of the quality of the releases. For better or worse,Far Crydoes not like to deviate too much from the beaten path as each game follows a very similar formula.Far Cry 6brings a few new ideas to the table, but they are not as meaningful (or as successful) as they could have been.
That said, the games are still fun in a vacuum, and each entry improves its predecessor’s gunplay. In terms of minute-to-minute gameplay,Far Cry 6is among the franchise’s best. Thefirst-person shooter’s settingis aesthetically pleasing as well, even if the story seems a bit too scared to take any real risks.
Far Cryhas found a formula that works and the series is determined to stick to it. Themainline open-world entriesare largely enjoyable, however, by this point, someone should be fully aware of whether they like the franchise’s gameplay loop or not.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragonis worth recommending to non-fans of Ubisoft’s series. Split into missions,Blood Dragonis a streamlined first-person shooter that pays homage to classic action movies from yesteryear. The game does not take itself seriously, can be completed within a couple of hours, and is ridiculously entertaining.
The onlyPrince of Persiagame directly on Amazon Luna isThe Lost Crown, which also happens to be the franchise’s most recent project. While its initial reveal garnered a mixed response, this spin-off eventually proved all the doubters wrong, delivering one of the best entries in the series so far. Unlike the 3D era,The Lost Crownis a 2.5D Metroidvaniathat blends tight action, platforming, and exploration. Players control Sargon, a member of the Immortals clan, as they go on an epic journey that involves taking on deity-like figures.
The Lost Crownmight not be the version ofPrince of Persiamost people grew up on, but it is a polished and high-quality title that does justice to the license’s storied history. The game has fairly fast-paced combat that will test Amazon Luna’s capabilities, but if it runs well, this is a must-play title.
A refreshing change of pace for Ubisoft,Child of Lightis aturn-based RPGwith a whimsical storybook-style narrative. As Aurora, players traverse the gorgeous Lemuria on a quest to free the land from the Queen of the Night’s grasp; along the way, the protagonist makes a few friends who decide to join in.
While this RPG is a budget title compared to most of Ubisoft’s releases,Child of Lightsimply radiates charm and passion. For those looking to see a different side to the publisher, this RPG is a fantastic game to pick. Its battle system is also a good fit for Amazon Luna’s cloud-based service.
All threeWatch Dogsgames are available on Amazon Luna’s Ubisoft+ channel, and while the series struggles to reach the heights of some of the company’s otheropen-world franchises, each entry in the trilogy is quite unique. They all have their positives, but if forced to pick the best overall experience,Watch Dogs 2takes the prize since it has the strongest mix of gameplay, story, and sheer fun factor.
Set in San Francisco, the game follows a group of hackers who are opposing a widespread system designed to big brother the city’s residents.Watch Dogs 2’s open-world is gorgeous and unsurprisingly huge, although not overwhelmingly so like a few other Ubisoft titles. The narrative keeps things moving at a reasonable pace, and the map comes packed with side content for those who want to step away from the main quest.
