TheBorderlandsfranchise is renowned for its outlandish tone, and that extends to all parts of the series, from its characters and story to its abilities and even its weapons. ThroughouttheBorderlandsfranchise, players will encounter a variety of different ranged weapons, all coming from a handful of different weapon manufacturers. Each of these weapons manufacturers has its own unique quirk, with some of the best tying in nicely with the series' over-the-top tone. And in a move that almost no one saw coming, it seems as thoughSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguemight be borrowingBorderlands' weapon manufacturer concept.
Themost recentSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguetrailerfinally gave fans the deep dive they’ve been asking for, though its reception wasn’t quite as positive as Rocksteady probably hoped. During the presentation, Rocksteady confirmed thatSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewill essentially be a looter-shooter, much likeDestiny 2, and while that’s certainly a big point of controversy for the game, at least its weapon options are starting to look fairly unique, borrowing a lot fromBorderlands.

For a game series centered around loot, it’s only natural that theBorderlandsfranchise puts a heavy emphasis on weapon variety. As well as multiple different categories of weapons, such as snipers and shotguns,Borderlandsalso features a range of different weapon manufacturers, all of which has their own unique set of quirks. While most of these traits are just simple stat specializations, some manufacturers offer a more overt ability. Tediore weapons, for instance, can’t be reloaded, as instead the player just throws them like a grenade at an enemy when they’ve run out of ammo.
Based on its most recent trailer, it seems as thoughSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueis adopting a similar approach to its own gear system. Throughout the game, players will be able to discover six different core types of ranged weapons. These include all the standard weapon types players would expect, like shotguns, assault rifles, SMGs, pistols, snipers, and miniguns. Each of these weapon categories is then further diversified with the introduction of weapon manufacturers, something seemingly borrowed directly fromBorderlands.
InSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, players will be able to find weapons from a slew of different weapon manufacturers, likeLexCorp, GCPD, and ArmorTech. It’s currently unclear just how many weapon manufacturers will be in the game, but hopefully there’ll be more than just three. It’s also currently unclear just how a manufacturer changes a weapon. It could be a simple boost to specific stats, or it could add some unique abilities to the weapon. The trailer also showed that most weapons will have a special skill attached to them, such as Captain Boomerang’s sniper, which stated that successful critical reloads would grant a burn effect on the next enemy hit.
During this part of the deep dive, Rocksteady also stated that later on inSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the player would start to unlock specific “gear sets” based on different villains in the DC universe. The example Rocksteady used in the trailer wasa Bane gear set, which was shown to cause enemies to blow up into clouds of green mist upon taking enough damage. These gear sets will apparently have unique visuals, sounds, and abilities based on their respective villains, and thankfully there are a lot of DC villains for the game to draw inspiration from.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguelaunches on May 26 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
