Summary

Sniper rifles may be getting a buff inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, according to comments from aCall of Dutystreamer. InCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2andCall of Duty: Warzone, finding one-shot sniper rifle kills can be a surprisingly complicated achievement. It can depend on sniper rifle, loadout, distance, where the shot lands, ammunition type, and other situational variables. That could be changing inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with more weapons includingModern Warfare 2carryovers being able to one-shot kill.

Managing to get a one-shot kill in the current era ofCall of Dutycan be a frustrating endeavor. There are a variety of guides online detailing how to getone-shot kills inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2andCall of Duty: Warzone, but they’re often tagged with a note that acknowledges even perfect builds don’t always one-shot kill. The sniper rifle nerfs have been done with intent, but it isn’t clear why. It may be as simple asCall of Dutydevelopers preferring their gameplay sniper-rifle insta-kills without more effort.

According to Metaphor, aCall of Duty: Warzone-focused content creator, changes are planned forsniper rifles inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. While speaking with WhoseImmortal regardingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2weapons that be carried over intoCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Metaphor said that sniper rifles will soon be able to one-shot kill enemies again. He says that this is a sure thing, based on his experience playingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3during the COD Next event.

Metaphor also believes that theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2sniper riflesbeing brought intoModern Warfare 3will be able to one-shot kill, too. Specifically, he says the SP-X 80 and LA-B 330 will be “sped up” and improved to one-shot kill. He says that they will be able to one-shot kill in the next iteration ofWarzone, specifically.

At this point in time, no official statement regarding sniper rifles inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3has been made by Activision or the game’s developers. That doesn’t mean what Metaphor is saying isn’t true, however. It’s just possible that gameplay could radically change from the COD Next event to launch, asModern Warfare 3remains in active development.

There will certainly be a number ofCall of Dutyfans who will celebrate the return of easier one-shot kills with sniper rifles. Others will be unhappy with the decision. Criticisms include that there’s little counterplay to a sniper rifle that can one-shot kill, especially in a battle royale likeWarzone. But for someCall of Dutyplayers, getting one-shot kills feels earned, skill-based, and realistic. It will be interesting to see whether the sniper rifle changes inModern Warfare 3prove popular or not.
