Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s Rumored MW2 Points of Interest

While there have been numerous leaks aboutWarzone 2that touch on new features like swimming, interrogations, and Strongholds, one of the most heavily repeated rumors suggests that the map will feel likeBlackout. It will apparently focus heavily on iconic locations from the originalModern Warfaretrilogy, working classic multiplayer maps into larger points of interest to make for a play space that leans heavily on nostalgia.

The latest leak has revealed whichclassic locations will be included inside theCall of Duty: Warzone 2map, with the chosen areas all being pulled from 2009’sModern Warfare2. The iconic game has a map lineup that is widely regarded as one of the very best in franchise history, with only the first twoBlack Opstitles placed on the same level. As such, it makes perfect sense that several locations from that game will feature in theWarzone 2map, likely joining some areas from the newModern Warfare 2to make for a combination between the old and the new.

The first map isHighrise, a location beloved for its Sniper Rifle battles and a hidden rooftop spot that required some complex platforming to successfully reach. The map will supposedly be integrated into a larger city area. Afghan will also be included if the leaks are accurate, renamed Caves. It will surely provide the same interiors the old map features as well as the memorable overhang where players could take shots at those below. Quarry is also expected to feature in theWarzone 2map.

The final map thatreputable leaker Tom Hendersonis certain will appear is Terminal. While Verdansk had its own airport, many were disappointed that it lacked the layout of this classic map. InWarzone 2, it seems like players will be free to enter the iconic camping spot at the back of the plane as well as all the nearby areas. Another location that leakers believe will feature, but are not 100% certain on, is Favela. If the visually pleasing map does make its way toCall of Duty: Warzone 2, its point of interest will apparently be dubbed Mountain Town.

Reusing Assets is Nothing New For Call of Duty

While theCall of Duty: Warzone 2map featuring these locations does not guarantee that they will be remastered maps inModern Warfare 2multiplayer, it certainly seems likely.TheCall of Dutyseries loves remastering maps(with some arguing that it happens a bit too much), so it would be par for the course to see severalMW2locations remastered. It also lines up with the leak stating that the reasonCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Multiplayer Remastered did not happen is because much of its content will be featured in the newMW2.

Beyond this, the work will have already been done to bring these new maps over into a new engine, so it makes sense to use those same assets in two activeCall of Dutygames. This is how the originalWarzonemap, Verdansk, came to be. Originally, Verdansk was a massive multi-purpose map created forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare2019. It housed the game’s lackingSpec Opsmissions, and several areas were broken off to serve as separate Ground War maps in multiplayer. The same thing happening withWarzone 2would not be shocking, with Infinity Ward sectioning off areas of theWarzone 2map to make multiplayer locations.

This happens in otherCall of Dutymodes as well, as it helps save time and resources. For instance,Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Outbreak modeis comprised entirely out of maps from the multiplayer’s Fireteam modes. Aside from the fact that the oldMW2maps that have leaked forWarzoneare beloved, ensuring that they would be a hit inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2multiplayer, it simply makes sense to use them in both games.

A Sign of What’s To Come For Modern Warfare 2

WhenCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2releases, there is a chance that fans will get to see Afghan, Terminal, Favela, Quarry, and Highrise in multiplayer. Whether these maps are available upon release or are added throughCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Seasons remains to be seen, though all will likely come at some point. Perhaps the other, brand-new locations that were leaked for theWarzone 2map could double as multiplayer maps as well. After all, a Graveyard and Shipwreck do sound like fun locations for a 6v6 arena.

It is worth noting that if theseModern Warfare 2map remasters do happen, others could as well. With theIntervention Sniper Rifle leaked, the quickscoping arena Rust would be a good map to remaster. Likewise, it could be fun to see locations like Estate and Wasteland again. Fans should also keep an eye on the areas that are added to theWarzone 2map through updates, as they could be repurposed as multiplayer maps as well. While the leakedWarzone 2areas are promising for nostalgicMW2fans, they might just prove to be even more exciting for those picking up theModern Warfare 2later this year.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2releases on October 28.
