Summary

ACall of Duty: Warzoneclip shows how unfair the “Groot” skin is for players on the receiving end of gunfire in the game. This new skin was added toCall of Duty: Warzonein the Season 6 update, and the following mid-season update brought the Halloween-themed “The Haunting” event.

Season 6 ofWarzoneandModern Warfare 2began on September 27, which is just over a month before the release ofModern Warfare 3.While waiting on the next installment ofCall of Duty, players had the opportunity to play theModern Warfare 3open beta over the span of two weekends. In preparation for The Haunting, the initial Season 6 update also introduced Nova’s new Gaia skin, which manyWarzoneplayers refer to as the Groot skin due to its resemblance to the character from Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxy. The skin has been a constant source of scrutiny inWarzonefor the past week, however.

Warzoneplayer DelicianoLopez is not pleased with the Groot skin after watching another player get eliminated during a match. In DelicianoLopez’s gameplay clip, a player was ambushed by an opponent that was using the Groot skin to blend into their surroundings. Many players argue thatthe Groot skin is unfair due to its lack of visibilityin some environments, leading to an advantage for those who prefer to camp and wait for their opponents inWarzone. In addition, some players believe it’s harder to shoot and land hit markers on a player using the skin, with the gameplay clip serving as evidence.

DelicianoLopez’s gameplay clip was met with frustration fromWarzoneplayers who also believe the Gaia skin gives an unfair advantage. Althoughthe October 17Warzoneupdatebrought some adjustments to the skin, some argue that Infinity Ward made visibility even worse since the skin’s tendrils changed from orange to a dark shade of red. As a result, some believe that the skin’s color “nerf” was actually a buff in some regards.

The “Groot” skin continues to bring criticism towardWarzone, and some players believe the skin promotesa “pay to win"Call of Dutyexperience. The opposing player is very difficult to spot in DelicianoLopez’s gameplay clip, so it’s clear that there’s still room for further adjustments to the Gaia skin. A possible solution to this problem includes the implementation of a brighter hue for the skin, which would allow players to more easily discern those hiding in dark environments.

Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlatStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
