Multitudes of players ofCall of Duty: Warzoneare unfortunately familiar with hackers and cheaters. Unfortunately, the game has had a cheater problem since its launch, and it seems that those cheaters are now getting a little more creative.

Typically, infirst-person shooters likeCall of Duty: Warzone, players see hacks aimed around things like seeing through walls or eliminating incoming damage. However, at least one player is now scoring dozens of kills through an unusual melee cheat.

As shared on Reddit byCall of Duty: Warzoneplayer Rip-Falcon, the new hack is disconcerting. The gameplay clip starts with the user’s team conversing over the obvious hacker, as the player reportedly has 40 kills in a single round. Throughout the clip, the users discuss the cheater, while teammate after teammate is killed off and shuffled to the gulag. However, despite knowing that a cheater was around, they nonetheless were taken off-guard when the cheater comes for them.

While standing on a cliffside high up, they look down and see the cheater beneath them. After exchanging fire, they back up, lying in wait. Although they might have had a chance of taking them by surprise when they came up over the edge, instead the player is taken by surprise themselves, with the cheater suddenly launching over the edge and moving towards them at absurdly fast speeds before cutting them down with theirmelee attack.

After the player’s death, it becomes clear what’s going on. TheWarzonekillcamswitches over to the cheater, where the player can see that they’re rapidly launching themselves up the side of the cliff by mashing the melee attack. The forward momentum that’s usually a part of melee attacks, which lets players move in for the kill when there’s some distance between themselves and their target, appears to have been modified. The increased forward momentum allows them to scale up the side rapidly, and then move in for the kill before an opposing player even has time to react.

While publisher Activision has taken steps to try and combat the cheater problem, including with the introduction of theRicochet anti-cheat system, cheaters like these can still be found in matches. It’s unclear if this particular cheat was used to work around the system’s automatic detection of cheats or not, or if the player was just trying something different. In either case, auto-aiming and wall hacks are only part of the cheating issue inCall of Duty: Warzone. Fans are hopeful thatCall of Duty: Warzone 2’s eventual release will learn from the lessons of fighting cheaters inWarzone, but it’s anyone’s guess at this point. In any case, players are extremely dissatisfied to see yet another instance of cheating in the game this far into its lifecycle.

Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
