If this is your first time playingFallout: New Vegasor the first time you have played it since its release in 2010, you may notice that your character moves slower than inotherFalloutgames, which can be highly frustrating. This slow movement is intentional, more on that below, but several options are available if you want to speed up your character’s movement when exploring the Wasteland to complete quests or when experiencing the fabulous New Vegas casinos. Here are some running alternatives forFallout: New Vegasthat you can try.
Can You Run In Fallout: New Vegas?
You cannot run inFallout: New Vegasbecause asprint mechanic wasn’t implemented untilSkyrim. Instead, the old way Bethesda used to program movement was by setting the default movement state as “running.” In addition, there is also a walking state that is used based on specific scenarios like sneaking or when over-encumbered. However, you may check a few things to see if your character is moving slower than the default movement speed.
The first thing you want to check is whether you accidentally hit the shortcut to put yourself into the walking state. To check this, open your Pip-Boy, press the correct shortcut to change movement speed states, close your Pip-Boy, and then attempt to move again.

Here’s how to change your default movement speed between running and walking states based on your platform:
The second thing you want to check is to ensure you aren’t over-encumbered, which happens if you carry more items than your character can handle. When over-encumbered, your default movement speed will automatically switch to the walking state. You can drop unwanted items on the ground, store them, or sell them to fix this.

The third thing you want to check is to ensure none of your limbs are crippled, as that can slow your movement down significantly as well. When both of your legs are crippled, your movement speed is slowed down to the same speed as the over-encumbered speed. In addition, if you play in the third-person view, you will have a limp.
In normal mode, you can use a Doctor’s Bag or sleep in any bed to heal all crippled limbs at once. You can also useStimpaks to healindividual limbs. However, in Hardcore Mode, Stimpaks do not work at all. Doctor’s Bags will only heal one limb at a time (or provide a small amount of healing to all limbs), and you must sleep in a bed you own.

Finally, if you holster your gun, you will move faster than the base running movement speed. You can holster your weapon by pressing and holding down the Reload button until you see your character perform the holster animation.
How To Increase Movement Speed In Fallout: New Vegas
you may increase your movement speed by usingPerks inFallout: New Vegas. The Travel Light (Vanilla) perk increases your movement speed by 10% when wearing Light Armor or non-armor clothing. You can pair this perk with the Tunnel Runner (Lonesome Road) and Atomic! (Old World Blues) perks to further increase your movement speed.
Under the right conditions, using all three perks will increase movement speed by 60%. You can pair these perks with the M-5 implant (Old World Blues) for 10,000 caps from Sink Auto-Doc. This implant increases your crouched movement speed by 20%.

Running Alternatives for Fallout: New Vegas
If none of the above methods get you moving as fast as you would like, then you canuse a modto provide yourself with an actual sprint mechanic. We recommend usingJust Vanilla Sprint forFallout: New Vegas,as it has the best sprint mod out of the available options and doesn’t have as many requirements as DLCs or extra MODs. However, you still need a few prerequisites before installing the mod.
Here is what you need before you can install the Vortex Mod Manager and the sprint mod:
Here’s how to install Just Vanilla Sprint mod forFallout: New Vegas:
