Cyberpunk 2077’s launch was fraught with controversy due to technical issues and broken promises. The controversies at launch were compounded when Sony officially removedCyberpunk 2077from the PS4’s storefront while CD Projekt Red improved the game. Since then, CD Projekt Red has made significant improvements to the stability ofCyberpunk 2077and returned it to PS4. It’s only fitting that it now takes the next step, with a new piece of leaked box art hinting thatCyberpunk 2077could arrive on PS5 sooner rather than later.
The leak comes from Twitter account PlayStationSize, an account that scrapes information from the PlayStation Store and shares it online. A large part of what the account shares is box and key art from each games' storefront profile. Needless to say, it was a surprise when the account posted the cover art for what they describe asCyberpunk 2077for PS5 on Sunday morning. It was described as the nativePS5 version ofCyberpunk 2077, with no other information made available.

While the account doesn’t have any other information aboutCyberpunk 2077coming to PS5, they do make a guess. They guessed thatCyberpunk 2077on PS5 could be released anywhere frommid-February to early March. Since the account is experienced at scraping data early, it’s possible they have reliable insight into when the game will actually be released. As in, if the cover art has been posted now, then the game typically follows this many weeks later. However, until an official announcement is made, fans should be skeptical.
The cover art is notably unique. The PS4 and Xbox One cover art featuresCyberpunk 2077’s protagonistwith their front facing forward and a pistol pointed into the air. The leaked PS5 cover art featuresCyberpunk 2077’s protagonist with their back and side facing the front. There’s no evidence that the art existed online prior to its leak on Sunday, so it lends the leak credence.
PS5 owners, as well as their counterparts on Xbox Series X/S, have been waiting for a very long time for the upgraded ports ofCyberpunk 2077. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions ofCyberpunk 2077were originally slated for the first half of 2021.Cyberpunk 2077’s launch issuesled to a delay into the second half of 2021, and another delay followed in October 2021 that confirmed the ports were delayed to early 2022. No reason was cited at the time.
If the leak is to be believed,Cyberpunk 2077’s PS5 release won’t be delayed any further, and it’s just a matter of when it makes the most sense forCD Projekt Redto officially announce when the ports will arrive. With February just days away, that can’t be far off.
Cyberpunk 2077is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
