The director of the PS4 console exclusiveDays Gonesays he’s feeling “bummed out” after watching the most recent PlayStation Showcase. The showcase unveiled a number of new exciting projects like aMetal Gear Solid 3remake anda handheld to accompany the PlayStation 5.Days Goneis one of the more controversial games in the PlayStation-exclusive library. Critically speaking, the game is on the lower end of the spectrum just above theKnacktitles with an average Metacritic score of 71. Saleswise, however, the game was successful and had a bigger first-week launch in Japan than other huge PS4 exclusives likeGod of WarandHorizon Zero Dawn. One of the game’s directors, Jeff Ross, apparently feels a little burned by Sony, though, resulting in some sad feelings brought up by the latest PlayStation Showcase.RELATED:Sony Now Has Multiple Studios Working On Mobile GamesRoss vented his downcast emotions on Twitter not long after the Showcase was finished. The source of these feelings is directly related tothe cancellation ofDays Gone 2. It’s been known for some time now that the open world zombie game wouldn’t be getting a sequel, in spite of its good sales. Bend Studio and Jeff Ross are both onto other projects now, but that doesn’t mean Ross is entirely over the idea of the sequel that never came to be.
Jeff’s comment implies thatDays Gone 2could have potentially been one of the latest PS5 exclusives had things gone a little differently. Diehard fans of the original title may also be interested to know that Jeff mentions in another response below his tweet that the main character of the sequel would have been Boozer. It definitely would have been interesting to see how the story would pan out in a sequel led by Deacon’s rowdy best friend. Thankfully, everyone atBend Studio does still seem excited about what’s to come on the PS5.
John Garvin, the co-director along with Jeff Ross onDays Gone, has also had some particularly strong and controversial opinions on the failings of the game in the past. Garvin made a tweet near the end of 2022 stating that “woke reviewers” are partially why the game critically failed. John’s comments don’t appear to reflect anyone else who worked on the game, however, andhe had left Bend Studio prior to stating his opinion.
Days Goneis available for PC and PS4.
