While theDeus Exseries has not been canceled, the famed cyberpunk series is currently in hiatusfollowing the disappointing commercial performance of 2016’sDeus Ex: Mankind Divided. With Eidos Montreal having worked onShadow of the Tomb RaiderandMarvel’s Avengersin the four years since then, fans still maintain hope that a new project will arrive. One of these fans is the voice actor of main character Adam Jensen, Elias Toufexis, who has revealed his readiness to return to the series.

In a response to a fan question asking whether he would return toDeus Exif requested, Toufexis affirmed his desire to do so, stating that he had “been campaigning for it for a while.” The Greek-Canadian actor even voiced his approval of a potential adult film adaptation, saying: “I’d probably still do it.”

In the years sinceMankind Divided, Toufexis has lent his talents to games and TV includingImmortals: Fenyx Rising,Fortnite, and Netflix originalBlood of Zeus. The latter animated series, in which Toufexis plays the role of Seraphim, has beenrenewed for a second seasonfollowing its critical and commercial success. Series creators Charley and Vlas Parlapanides stated in an October 2020 interview that they are aiming for five seasons.

While a newDeus Extitle has not come out since 2016 and will probably not release for a while, the series remains at the forefront of the immersive sim genre for its freedom of player choice. The parallels between its atmospheric world — which depicts a dystopian future controlled by corporations beyond the reach of global governments — and our own have not gone unnoticed, especially with billionaire Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk ironically naming the original as one of his favorite games andcomparing himself to its hero JC Denton, an agent working for anti-terrorism unit UNATCO. Fans have instead compared him to antagonist Bob Page, a wealthy industrialist.

The entireDeus Exseries is currently available at a heavily discounted price on GOG.com and is alsoDRM-free. Each game in the series sells for mere single-digit figures, with the original andInvisible Warbeing able to run on practically any system today. WhileInvisible Wardoes have its detractors andMankind Dividedis an ultimately unfinished game in terms of its narrative, the series has proven highly influential in both the immersive sim and cyberpunk genres. Games such as theDishonoredseries andPreyhave taken great inspiration fromDeus Exin offering player agency and hopefully a new game can pick up whereMankind Dividedleft off.
