There is a big appeal to having a playable vampire in a video game. This includes the likes ofCastlevania,Vampire: The Masquerade, andLegacy of Kain. Last year, theBloodRaynefranchise made a surprise comeback, where fans could re-experience the adventures of half-vampire Rayne and her bid to kill all manner of monsters. The next in the titles to be remastered is the one by Wayforward, under the title ofBloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites. In an interview with Siliconera, Wayforward Head of Business and Publishing Adam Tierney talked about how the remaster came to be, along with the possibility of a fourth title in theBloodRayneseries.

In the Siliconera interview, Tierny explains that the collaboration to re-release the game came about when the publisher, Ziggurat, approached Wayforward about updating the game to modern systems. He says that since theBloodRayneIP was one of the team’s favorites that they worked on, they took the job and tried multiple ways to try and give the game a brand-new look and feel. This includes rebalancing the game, going through a new round of QA testing, and adding a new difficulty mode. Tierny explains that the new difficulty options can be toggled so that it would be more like the original 2011 game.

The possibility of a fourth BloodRayne game in the series was also asked by Siliconera, with Tierny loving the chance to do so. The reason why the company jumped at the chance to updateBloodRayne: Betrayalwas to establish a partnership with Ziggurat. “When it’s time forBloodRayne 4, there’s no question which developer should be creating it.” said Tierny. He further detailed what kind of game aBloodRayne 4by Wayforward would be, describing it as an extension ofBloodRayne: Betrayal. The hypothetical game would be a 2D action platformer, with a brand new story and more unique enemies and bosses.

Tierny concludes the interview saying while Wayforward managed to accomplish those feats withBetrayal, he would love to see the studio have another go at the franchise, especially considering how much the company has grown and experienced in the last decade. He then asks the fans if they want to see anotherBloodRayneby Wayforward, they should consider buying the remaster coming out this month.
