Battlefield 2042suffered from what most considered an incredibly rocky launch. With glitches and bugs being rife throughout the game and changes to the core gameplay, it was enough to turn many away from DICE’s latest shooter. The game has seen so many players leave thatBattlefield 2042is currently beingoutperformed by three olderBattlefieldtitles on Steam. WithBattlefield 2042being a few months old now, and little having changed in terms of fans' opinion on the game, many are hopingBattlefield’sfuture can offer a better experience.
It’s not just gamers that are hoping the upcomingBattlefieldgame will do better thanBattlefield 2042either. Developer of theBattlefieldseries, DICE, has recently revealed in an interview that it there were some missteps withBattlefield 2042, and that the studio will be looking to improve on the many problems fans pointed out. According to DICE, the initial plan for the nextBattlefieldgame, which has already entered pre-production, would be to useBattlefield 2042as a foundation for its successor.

Those plans have quickly changed following the public reception toBattlefield 2042though. No longer will the latest entry in theBattlefieldfranchise be used as a foundation, and plans are also diverting from creating aBattlefieldhero shooter, in line with other first-person-shooters likeCall of DutyandOverwatch. It seems thatBattlefield 2042’sspecialists are one of the major issues that DICE is focusing on, as both the developer and publisher EA are conducting play tests to better tie the roles to the classes that appeared inBattlefieldgames prior to 2042.
So far, DICE has spoken little on the disastrous launch ofBattlefield 2042, rather it appears more focused on the elements of gameplay that players didn’t like, such as the specialists and other changes instead of the bugs and glitches that plagued the game’s release. Though,Battlefieldlaunches have often been full of problems, such as thepoorly-received launch ofBattlefield 4,so it may be that DICE would rather focus on specific problems with the newest game instead of trying to fix issues the franchise has had for years.
This is not to say that DICE is entirely abandoning the latestBattlefieldthough, asnew patches are being released to keepBattlfield 2042at some level of functionality. However, it does seem that DICE would rather start fresh than try to redeemBattlefield 2042in some way. There’s hope for fans who prefer the earlier titles though, as it seems DICE has recognized copying hero shooters and creating all new mechanics may not always pay off.
Battlefield 2042is available right now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
