Summary
A second printing of the extremely popular DisneyLorcanacollectible card game is in the works and will arrive before the end of the year. The first set of theLorcanaCCG, titledFirst Chapter, has sold out at many retailers across the United States. EvenDisney’s own online shop sold out, despite early indication that it would be a primary source forLorcanastarter decks and booster packs. It looks likeLorcanafans will have another chance to collect theFirst Chaptersoon.
TheLorcanaFirst Chapterset first launched on August 18, but only in select game shops. Availability was immediately recognized as extremely limited. WhenLorcanalaunched across major retailers in September, fans quickly discovered that supply would not meet demand. While there was indication that more ofLorcana’sFirst Chapterwould make its way to store shelves in time, that hasn’t proven accurate yet. Disney appears to have already shifted focus to the arrival ofLorcana’s second set,Rise of the Floodborn, in December.

A reprint of theFirst Chapterset was almost immediately confirmed following availability issues starting the day ofLorcana’s release. Details about the reprint have only now been shared, however. Citing “increased demand,” the reprint of theFirst Chapterset is now planned to arrive by holiday 2023. That means it won’t arrive before thelaunch ofRise of the Floodbornon December 1.
What’s also been confirmed is thatRise of the Floodbornis getting a reprint, too. The first printing of the secondLorcanaset won’t be available for months but Disney can already see that it’s going to need more to meet demand. The reprint ofRise of the Floodbornalso appears to be planned for release in holiday 2023, which hopefully means that bothFirst ChapterandRise of the Floodbornwill be widely available for fans looking to start playingLorcana.
What makes the situation withLorcanaso frustrating is that the card game is designed to encourage scarcity by nature.Lorcanasets are broken up into multiple rarities, including an exceedingly rare Enchanted rarity. These cards are numbered, making them a part of a complete set. Unsurprisingly,Enchanted cards are selling for hundreds if not thousands of dollars on eBay.
It’s likely too early to say that these planned reprints for bothFirst ChapterandRise of the Floodbornwill solveLorcana’s scarcity issues. After all, the scarcity issue is beneficial to a card game likeLorcana. It keeps interest high, card value rising, and people talking about the game online. With hope, Disney’s reprint is large enough that everyone wanting to playLorcanacan purchase the starter packs and boosters that they want.
