Nintendo’s foray into the mobile game market in the mid-2010s saw the gaming juggernaut release a variety of games based on some of its most popular franchises.Fire Emblem Heroessaw overwhelming successon mobile devices following its launch and franchises likeSuper Mario Bros.,Mario Kart, andAnimal Crossingwould soon follow. However, among Nintendo’s plethora of mobile games was an original project withGranblue Fantasydeveloper Cygames,Dragalia Lost. Now, the mobile RPG has officially confirmed its upcoming end of service date.

Nintendo and Cygames had revealed earlier this year thatDragalia Lostwould be shutting downin 2022, with its final content update set for July. Now, a new update from Nintendo has officially confirmed the game will shut down on November 29th, 2022. The update came alongside the shuttering of purchases for the game’s premium currency ending at the same time as the post was made.Dragalia Lost’s Upgrade Essentials and Packs will continue to be purchasable in-game until the end of October, ending on October 31st.

Dragalia Lost’s closure in November will come just over four years after the game launched in September 2018 to modest success. The mobile action RPG had earned $60 million worldwide just four months after its launch, later seeing multiplecrossovers with major franchises likePersona 5andMonster Hunter. While seeing largely mixed reviews from critics,Dragalia Lostwas nominated for the 2018 D.I.C.E. Awards' “Portable Game of the Year.” The game’s previously mentioned final update came on July 24th, adding the second part ofDragalia Lost’s 26th story chapter.

Dragalia Lost’s end of service announcement saw many fans taking to the replies hoping to seeDragalia Lost’s cast featured in another Cygames property. Cygames' flagship titleGranblue Fantasyoften features collaborations with other Cygames-developed games likePrincess Connect: ReDive. The mobile and browser-based RPG also has a wide roster of crossover characters included, with characters frompopular games likeFinal Fantasy 11and anime likeOne Pieceadded to the game.

Nintendo has seen significant success with many of its other mobile games based on its first-party franchises.Nintendo’s mobilePikmingame,Pikmin Bloom, passed 2 million downloads in less than a month following the game’s launch.Fire Emblem Heroeshas remained one of the top-grossing mobile games across both Android and iOS since its launch in February 2017. WhileDragalia Lost’s closure will be a sad moment for many fans still playing the game, the game leaves a legacy as Nintendo’s only mobile-original IP.
