Many fans of theDragon Agefranchise are excited to hear more about the upcoming game, but it could perhaps do better by focusing on other elements instead of the one that appears to be on repeat: Solas.Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s development is moving forward, with developer BioWare recently revealing it had entered its Alpha stage, but many have mixed feelings about what is being featured in the marketing so far. Solas will be the villain in the game, continuing the plot line that directly revealed him as the titular Dreadwolfin the Trespasser DLC forDragon Age: Inquisition. And while players of the games are curious about whereDragon Age: Dreadwolf’s story will go, there’s obviously more to show than just the nefarious elf.
Dragon Age: Dreadwolfwill directly follow the events ofDragon Age:Inquisition, now shifting to theTevinter Imperium as the setting. While Dorian, a mage from Tevinter who appears inInquisition, has not yet been confirmed for the new game, Varric has been seen in cinematics released for the upcoming title. Aside from him and Solas, no other characters from earlier games have yet been confirmed, but two new characters have been mentioned in passing.Dragon Age: Dreadwolfwill feature a character named Davrin, who seems to be a Grey Warden, and another named Bellara, who is more shrouded in mystery. And while this handful makes sense for the current stage of development, the constant focus on Solas is beginning to wear away at fans.

Moving Away From Solas in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Marketing
Dragon Age: Dreadwolfgave its first teaser trailerat the 2018 Game Awards, and one thing that has remained consistent with all information released so far about the game is its focus on the game’s villain. While fans are curious about what Solas has been up to, many are disappointed with the lack of information regarding most other aspects of the game. It’s understandable BioWare cannot show much or everything right now, but when it’s ready for the next step, it should give more than just Solas. At this point, just about anything else would be a nice change of pace for fans.
It has released some concept art in the past, but even that has slowed to a halt, whilenew reveals forMass Effect 4have been varied, leading to plenty of speculation and discussion about its future, unlikeDragon Age: Dreadwolf’s continued push on Solas. Even the cinematic release on Dragon Age Day was almost exclusively about the game’s antagonist, even sporting the title “Who is the Dreadwolf?” despite the fact that Solas had been almost solely the focus of all media released about the new game.
Fans of the franchise have contented themselves with crumbs of information about the next game ever since thelastDragon Age: InquisitionDLCwas released back in 2015. BioWare’s games are notable for how their games' stories have been expertly plotted and engaging to match the large array of characters that players have grown so familiar with; for the studio to be so quiet about these elements, even in early marketing, seems odd. Of course, Solas is important but so is just about everything else.
Even glimpses of other characters, the setting, Red Lyrium, or whatnot, especially at this point, would be welcome. Althoughthe recent release of Netflix’sDragon Age: Absolutionhas given fans the opportunity to return to Thedas, specifically a new look at Tevinter, anything new aboutDragon Age: Dreadwolfand unrelated to Solas has been sparse.
