Bandai Namco’s latest promotions forDragon ball Z: Kakarothave usuallyfocused on the Majin BuuSaga, but this newest preview goes back in time a bit to give Cell a spotlight. The preview recreates the moment Cell absorbs Android 17 to achieve his Semi-Perfect form.
It also showcases the battle between Imperfect Cell and Android 16. Naturally, however, it takes some creative liberties with the fight, opting to have Android 16 pretty much immediately bury Cell with the Hell Flash technique instead of pitting the two in a prolonged battle like the anime.

Bandai Namco tweeted out the clip with the caption “The Path to Perfection,” referencing Cell’s ambitions to become the perfect warrior through absorbing Androids 17 and 18. The clip starts with Cell trying to absorb Android 17 only to end up getting punched into the sky, driven into the ground, and then blasted with Hell Flash by 16. Once the dust settles, Android 16 tries to convince 17 to run from the fight, but 17 won’t have it, wanting Cell to show himself so that he can be the one to finish him off. Cell, of course, does reemerge, but instead of being defeated, heeffortlessly absorbs 17 through his tail, completing his transformation into Semi-Perfection.
For those select few who don’t know, Cell’s transformations work a bit differently from otherDragon Ballcharacters because his “final form” is actually his base form. By design, Cell starts off as an incomplete creature who needs to absorb Android’s 17 and 18 to become whole (Perfect). When he has neither of these beings absorbed, he’s Imperfect, and when he has at least one, he’s Semi-Perfect. As such, his “powers up” aren’t typicalDragon Ballpower-ups, they’re the character becoming what he was intended to be in the first place.
The text of Bandai Namco’s tweet informs fans that they’ll be fighting against Cell in all of his forms. With that in mind, players will probably only fight Imperfect Cell as Piccolo since he’s the only playable character inDBZ: Kakarotto battle with him. While Cell does terrorize other knownDragon Ballcharacters after becoming Semi-Perfect, Super Vegeta and Trunks are the only two confirmed playable characters that fight him in this form. Vegeta allows Cell to become Perfect soon after that, though, and a large portion of theplayable cast gets a piece of him, so fans should expect to deal with this form of Cell most of the time.
