Ed Boon has been teasing the official reveal ofMortal Kombat 12for a while now, and according to his latest tease, the game could be officially revealed this week. For those out of the loop, Ed Boon is one of the original creators of theMortal Kombatseries and has become well known for his social media wit over the last few years. One thing that is fairly certain is thatMortal Kombat 12is coming this year. Back in February, the Warner Bros Discovery CEO and President David Zaslav casually revealed during a WB earnings call that the next entry in the iconic fighting game series is on track to release before the end of 2023. Ed Boon sarcastically attempted to divert attention away from this lackluster reveal in the wake of the news getting out.RELATED:Rumor: Another Mortal Kombat 12 Guest Character Has LeakedIn the months between now and then, he has put out multiple othertweets pertaining toMortal Kombat 12’sreveal. Now, he has taken to Twitter once again to state that, “THIS WEEK SHOULD BE FUN,” which seems to be confirmation that the game will finally be revealed at some point in this coming week, perhaps during some sort of livestream event.
Cryptically, the tweet in question was written out in a stylized fashion to resemble the letter L. Speculation about why Boon constructed the message in this manner has been rife in the replies under the tweet, with some theorizing that it is in fact not an L, but the hands of a clock pointing to 3 o’clock. The clock face aesthetic has already beenused inMortal Kombat 12’smarketing, with a teaser being released last week that showed a ticking clock.
That clock face teaser also suggested that the upcoming game may be some sort of reboot for theMortal Kombatfranchise, as the clock hands ticked past 11, skipped entirely over the 12, and then stopped on the number 1. There have also been a few leaks recently whichseem to corroborate theMortal Kombatreboot theory.
Hopefully the official reveal will come this week, either confirming or rejecting the reboot theory once and for all. Perhaps a CGI trailer will be shown during the reveal stream to confirm whether this new game is a sequel or a prequel, and then a gameplay trailer might be shown off duringSony’s PlayStation Showcase stream, which is also rumored to be taking place before the end of the month.
Mortal Kombat 12is currently in development.
