Game of Thronesstar Emilia Clarke recently commented on how he time working on the critically acclaimed HBO show stacks up to her recent adventures in the MCU’sSecret Invasion.
Based on the work of award-winning author George R.R. Martin in his ongoing seriesA Song of Ice and Fire,Game of Thronesran for eight seasons on HBO and became one of the most successful shows ever, with the spin-offHouse of the Dragon’s premieresetting recordsas HBO’s highest viewed debut ever. Central to the success of the series, alongside the hard work of the entire cast and crew, was Clarke’s standout performance as Daenerys Targaryen, the banished heir to the legacy of Westeros' original conquerors and the Mother of Dragons.

With her role as Daenerys, Clarke gave audiences one ofthe most iconic queens in a TV show, and her career has since gone on to reach even newer levels of success and cultural relevance, including roles in several successful films, an appearance in theStar Warsfranchise, and now a debut in the highly popular Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Disney Plus showSecret Invasion. Speaking on the press tour for the new series, Clarke spoke toYahoo’s Kevin Polowy about her favorite working experience and revealed that Marvel took the cake for her. “Oh my god, it’s just the best… It’s such a pedigree in its own right,” Clarke said in response. “It lives in its own level that is separate from everything else. It isn’t just a superhero franchise, it’s Marvel, like it’s totally different.”
“There’s an ease and calm that I think comes with them being the best and maybe understanding that they’re the best, and having all the stuff. And then having this cast is just completely mindblowing,” Clarke added. Clarke, who has expressly admitted she’sdone with her iconicGame of Thronescharacter, contrasted the two further. “Game of Thrones was such a unique experience for me because we didn’t know what the hell we were doing most of the time. And then it just became this big thing, and we just rode that journey all the way. This, you’re stepping in, and everyone is already doing their A-game.”
Clarke was quite clear about her feelings, going on to summarize by saying, “I’m genuinely having a wicked time on Marvel, though; they’re absolutely brilliant.” Clarke also commented on the general view in the industry towards the MCU. “Everyone I know and everyone I’ve spoken to who is a part of the Marvel universe — and actors talk! Everyone has only the highest praise to offer.”
While fans don’t have a frame of reference for behind-the-scenes attitudes all the time, having Clarke give such a candid explanation of things is helpful. Her enjoyment of her time onSecret Invasioncould be indicative of a willingness to make many more appearances if the writing allows for it.
