Following the success of 2018’sGod of War, the next installment in the series,God of War: Ragnarok, is set to end the Norse Saga for Kratos and Atreus. With an already compelling story set up and highly anticipated battles with the likes of Thor and Odin, fans are wondering what figures from Norse Mythology will make an appearance. Tyr and Angrboda, two major characters in the events of Ragnarok, have already been revealed in theGod of War: Ragnaroktrailer. However, there are many more who play a vital role in the death of the Norse Gods that have yet to make an appearance.
The first game’s ending revealed that Atreus will play the part of Loki during the events of Ragnarok, and with Angrboda, who is Loki’s wife in Norse Mythology, there are numerous characters that the game could add many key figures to the game such as Fenrir, the wolf that kills Odin. Furthermore, with Tyr introduced to the story as well, there is a likely chance that fans will get to see more of the Aesir inGod of War: Ragnarok. With so many possibilities,there have been many theories as to how Kratos and Atreus will take on the remaining godsas they will undoubtedly face new challenges and require some help.

Fenrir
One of the most famous figures in Norse Mythology, Fenrir is a huge wolf that is the offspring of Loki and Angrboda. Prior to the events of Ragnarok, Fenrir is imprisoned within the planet, and it is the act of him breaking free that kick-starts Ragnarok and destroys much of Midgard. His role in Ragnarok is to kill Odin, the ruler of Asgard and King of the Gods, by eating him whole. With both Loki – in the form of Atreus – and Angrboda featuring in the upcoming game, it seems more than likely thatfans will see and fight alongside Fenrir in the battle against Asgard.
The Norns
God of Warhas always played into the destiny of Kratos and the gods he has killed throughout his journey. Even in 2018’sGod of War, all the actions that take place were already prophesied by the giants, including certain events that are yet to take place. WithKratos now fearing that Atreus will end his life, it is likely that he will seek out The Norns, known as the Goddesses of Destiny in Norse Mythology. As creators of fate, they have powers that far exceed that of the gods and could give Kratos and Atreus the key to defeating Asgard.

Zeus
While Zeus has already been killed by Kratos and does not belong to the same mythos as Thor and Odin, fans were able to hear his voice when Kratos was in Helheim. This was shortly followed by Mimir warning Kratos to never venture to the area where Zeus’ voice was heard, which likely means that inGod of War: Ragnarok, Kratos will need to venture into that area of Helheim to find something that could rival Odin or Thor.Odin, in fact, will hold the same antagonistic place inRagnarok’s story that Zeus once heldduring the Greek Saga of the previousGod of Wargames. His presence in the next game could also be used to help Kratos come to terms with the prophecy he had seen in Jotunheim.
Hel
One of the children of Loki and Angrboda, and Goddess of Death, Hel resides inHelheim, the Norse realm of the dishonored dead, and could play a vital role in the upcoming game. It seems more than likely that Kratos and Atreus will need to once more venture into Helheim, and if they do so, they will probably come up against Hel. Like Atreus, Hel is also half-god and half-giant, and she plays an important role in aiding both Loki and Fenrir as they attack Asgard, since she helps create the ship that Loki will ride on. This makes her seem like another plausible ally to Atreus over the course ofGod of War: Ragnarok.
Surtr
The story of Ragnarok not only describes the death of the Aesir but also describes the destruction of Midgard and its eventual rebirth. The key figure behind the destruction of Midgard was Surtr, the fire giant and guardian of Muspelheim, the realm of fire. During Ragnarok, Surtr was responsible for spreading fire throughout Midgard, effectively killing everything on Earth. He also battles Frey during this apocalyptic event. WhileGod of War: Ragnarokmay not introduce Surtr himself, hecould give Kratos some of his power or even his sword to help combat the Aesir.
Both Kratos and Atreus may be capable enough to defeat Baldr, but they will need a lot of help to take out the likes of Thor and Odin, both of whom have consistently been spoken of as far more powerful than anything the duo has come up against. After losing Frey as an ally, the duo is set at an incredible disadvantage as her help was instrumental in defeating Baldr in the first game.God of War: Ragnarokwill need to introduce a few key figuresthat played an important role in the mythological tale to assist Kratos and Atreus as they mount their final assault on Asgard.
