Ever since both the manga and anime came to a close,Fairy Tailfans have been waiting with bated anticipation for the release of theFairy TailRPG by Koei Tecmo and Gust. With the release date drawing closer and closer, Koei Tecmo announced that the game will include three new playable characters.
Fairy Tailis a popular Japanese franchise that started out as a manga series back in 2006 and later received an anime adaptation that premiered in 2009. Since then, it has become a well known and prominent series in the world of manga and anime. Given the popularity of the series,Fairy Tailwould receive a video game adaptationthat was announced back in September of 2019.

On December 12th 2019, Koei Tecmo announced that three new playable characters will be added to the newFairy Tailgame. These characters include Laxus Dreyar, Mirajane Strauss, and Jellal Fernandes. These three characters will be added to the roster of playable characters, along with thefive otherFairy Tailcharactersthat were announced at the Tokyo Game Show.
With the departure of both theanime and the manga,Fairy Tailfans have been incredibly excited for the release of this game. TheFairy Tailgame will feature a roster of fifteen playable characters and RPG style gameplay, which was shown off in a newFairy Tailtrailerthat was released back in early December.
Though, for how excited the fans are for the release of theFairy Tailgame, it’s hard to predict how successful it will be. Although the anime has become popular in the West, the overall quality of anime based games has been very low. Given the lackluster performance of games likeJump Force,it’s difficult to know how wellFairy Tailwill measure up.
Having said that, not every anime based game has been met with poor reception from fans and critics.Dragon Ball FighterZgarnered a massive following, as well as being nominated for numerous accolades after its release. What it might ultimately come down to is the genre of the game in question. This newFairy Tailgame is an RPG that will feature 30 hoursof gameplay. SinceFairy Tailis a series whose main focus is adventure, it makes sense to have this new game be an RPG and not a fighting game likeJump ForceorDragon Ball FighterZ. Fans will just have to wait until the game’s release to find out if it meets expectations.
Fairy Tailwill release on PC, PS4 and Switch on March 20th, 2020.
