Fall Guyshas added yet another familiar icon to its vast line up of skins in its second Fame Pass. If players purchase this pass and work their way through it, they will get an exclusive skin forLara Croft fromTomb Raider, perfectly sized forFall Guys’jellybean characters. However, Mediatonic’s Lara Croft design may have beaten Crystal Dynamics to a very important punch if fans look closely at it.

Crystal Dynamics were put in charge of theTomb Raiderseries afterThe Angel of Darkness, the sequel toTomb Raider: the Last Revelation, didn’t perform as well as Crystal Dynamics' parent company Eidos Interactive wanted it to. After releasing threeTomb Raidergames,Crystal Dynamics choseto reboot the series, and the new direction of the franchise has been divisive with long-time fans. However, Mediatonic may have succeeded in combining both versions of Lara Croft together before the actualTomb Raidergames.

The History of Lara Croft

Lara Croft has been a prominent character to many gamers since 1996. She’s rather hard to forget as her design is simple yet sleek as she wears a turquoise leotard under a pair of brown cargo shorts. She wears calf-high boots, fingerless gloves, and a large utility belt which has the holsters for her iconic pistols on her hips, and keeps her long brown hair in a braid. For many reasons, this look for Lara was memorable for gamers while lending itself well toTomb Raider’s low polygon graphics.

As of the 2013 reboot, Lara’s design was changed in a way that some series loyalists would consider drastic. Asthe newTomb Raidergamestarted off as Lara’s new origin story, she was turned into a younger character with realistic proportions, specifically aiming to avoid the exaggerated features found on the original design. Now sporting a necklace, a light blue tube top, along with pants and more every day boots, some older fans didn’t like the new design, but newer ones introduced by the reboot appreciated the more down-to-earth take on the character.

How Fall Guys Takes the Best of Both Worlds

Despite the divide when it comes to what fans should expect fromTomb Raidercrossover content, Mediatonic ended up creating a Lara that mixes the two versions together satisfyingly. While it’s hard to see on the jellybean, theFall Guysskin brings back her leotard by making it into what appears to be a turquoise tube top while giving her a light blue shirt underneath it. She also has the necklace from her 2013 iteration, along with some protective equipment. Among this equipment is the return of her iconic pistol holsters.

This ensures that the skin is clearly Lara Croft, but it doesn’t alienate any of her fans, be them old or newer. It’s certainly a rather unique approach to the problem that’s been plaguing the franchise for the last while, and it’s one Crystal Dynamics could learn from. It’s rather surprising thatMediatonic’sFall Guysfound a way to merge the two designs together sooner thanTomb Raider’s own development studio, though many of the more challenging areas such as her proportions wouldn’t translate well to the jellybean-shaped skin, which likely helped a tad.

Still, the Lara Croft skin forFall Guysproves that there’s an answer to this problem. WhileTomb Raiderfans have the Lara Croft Collectionto look forward to for now, Crystal Dynamics has time to try and handle this divide with the next game that’s currently in development. While it’s understandable why the company wants to keep pushingTomb Raiderforward, there would be nothing wrong with merging both versions of the character to bridge the current gap between fans, keeping Lara Croft both relevant and as cool as she was always known to be.
