Just to get us started on the right note, let’s make it abundantly clear that we are not talking about stats for the purposes of this article. This is all about fashion! Just because we’re scraping by in a post-nuclear hellscape does not mean your average wastelander cannot feel trendy, well-dressed, or outright beautiful.

Post-apocalyptic visual stories always need memorable clothes, andFalloutis aware of this on some level. From pretty, to weird, to scary, the clothes have interesting designs. However, that does not mean we want to wear all of them. Whether theyinspire awesome cosplaysor are simply radical, here are five outfits we wish we could wear throughout the game and five that we would leave behind.

10BEST: The Silver Shroud Costume

A lot of the best clothes are connected to quests, and the Silver Shroud quest line is one of the most fun bits ofFallout 4. You get to take a comic book hero and bring them to life by wearing a costume, and dealing vigilante justice to folks in the wasteland and Goodneighbor.

Not only is it one of the most fun quest lines ofFallout 4,but the outfit looks very cool. It it complementary to both male and female protagonists, and it is unique. There is no other piece of clothing like it in the entire game, and you’ll rarely, if ever feel the need to slip into something else.

9WORST: Vulpes' Dog-Hat

Poor Vulpes is supposed to be an intimidating character. He is one of Caesar’s most trusted men. He has committed massacres on behalf of the Legion during the events ofFallout: New Vegas. However, his dog hat made him a little hard to take seriously. It appears to be a coyote skin, but it really just came out ridiculous looking.

Vulpes is not the only character to wear this hat. Some Legion assassins wear them and so do Legion vexillarii. If you want the correct term for the hat, it’s a Vexillarius helmet, but let’s be honest: it’s a dog hat.

8BEST: NCR Ranger Combat Armor

The NCR armor is one of the coolest looking clothing sets in all of the games. InFallout: New Vegas, there are players who sided with the NCR specifically for their radical-looking armor. Besides being awesome on its own, this outfit was well-marketed.

It was in the opening cinematic trailer, and also the game cover art. And that’s likely because the people making the covert art and trailer were very well aware that this was the coolest-looking outfit in the game.

7WORST: Synth Armor

Breaking apart synths and using their bodies as armor sounds cool in theory. However, players were disappointed to see the results inFallout 4. The result looked more like the protagonist broke apart a toilet and turned it into armor.

It looks bad, like real bad. It is even more awkward when journeying with other characters who have pretty cool clothing designs, like Hancock. Just imagine standing next to Hancock wearing this eyesore. He’s a ghouland he looks better than you.

6BEST: Hancock’s Clothes

Speaking of Hancock, his fashion sense got him into our list. Beyond being one of thebestFalloutcompanionsever, he’s as stylish as they come. The best clothes have a story behind them, after all, and Hancock’s bit historical cosplay really tells quite the story. To make a long story short, he got really messed up on chems and found Hancock’s old clothes in a museum.

He decided to wear them, start a revolution, and become Mayor of Goodneighbor. He pulls off the look despite being a ghoul, and he uses the American flag as a belt to tie the whole thing together. You don’t get much more fashionable than that in the wasteland.

5WORST: The Antagonizer’s Outfit

InFallout 3, you have some pretty crazy questlines. One involves a fight between a woman who controls ants, the Antagonizer, and a man who controls robots, the Mechanist. They are like superhero and supervillain, meeting in town and constantly wrecking it with their fights. You get to take care of it, whether that means destroying them both, siding with one, or getting them both to make peace.

They both have interesting costumes, but the Antagonizer’s is outstandingly wacky. Just look at her helmet! The only question is whether or not it’s more silly than it is ugly.

4BEST: Naughty Nightwear

Another crazy questline fromFallout 3is an unmarked one called Grady’s Package. You hunt down some kind of item from clues you found and discover it is pajamas. Not just any pajamas though, but the fabled naughty nightwear!

You are immediately approached my a man, Lug-Nut, who threats your life so that he can have the naughty nightwear. Whatever you choose to do, the quest is quite memorable for being strange. If you get to keep the clothes, it is leopard print, and boosts your charisma by a lot.

3WORST: Trapper Armor

The armor looks cool until you get to the helmet. The helmet is an actual lobster trap, though it could arguably also look like a mailbox.

This set was released forFallout 4in its DLC content,Far Harbor. The DLC does have a swampy and coastal setting that suits the armor. However, that lobster cage is absurd. How does your character look left and right? How do they eat? Do they open part of the cage?

2BEST: Maxson’s Coat

If the creators ofFalloutdo not want certain characters to die, they should not give them nice clothes that are unique only to them. That’s what happened to Elder Maxson, and everyone killed him just for his cool coat. It looks so nice with its leather, buttons, and fur all untouched by the grime and blood of the wasteland. Players cannot help but look at Maxson and think to themselves, “That’s a nice jacket, a great jacket. I would look better in that jacket.”

It’s a pity since Maxson is a major character. Imagine being as infamous as he is, and being murdered simply because your coat is the absolute height of wasteland fashion.

1WORST: Mascot Head

The mascot head fromFallout 4is an outfit piece made for nightmares.  It can be found int the basement of the D.B. Technical High School, so putting two and two together, their mascot was likely this bear. However, the mascot head has a huge hole in it so you can see the man or woman behind the mask on one side but not the other.

A raider leader, Bosco, is already wearing the mask, so you have to take him down to get it. But you wouldn’t really want to wear it anyway, right?
