Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles' multiplayer is an even bigger deal than just being online, however. Square Enix has also confirmed thatFinal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Editionwill supportcross-platform play. There don’t appear to be any limitations noted, so cross-play will presumably work between PS4, Switch, and both iOS and Android devices.

There’s plenty more coming to the new version ofFinal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, though, too. Not only willSquare Enixbe adding voiceover to the game, but it’ll also be adding all-new dungeons and bosses. Even fans of the originalFinal Fantasy Crystal Chronicleswill have a ton of new content to experience in the remastered edition.

One final feature that Square Enix seems particularly excited about is called the “Mimic” feature. By completing dungeons or by visiting Moogle Houses and collecting stamps, players will be able to take on the form of variousFinal Fantasy Crystal Chroniclescharacters. It’s not clear if these changes will grant new abilities, but at the very least it’ll work like acosmetic skinsystem.

It’s funny to consider how casually Square Enix is rereleasingFinal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles17 years after it originally launched. For those who aren’t aware, the original release ofFinal Fantasy Crystal Chronicleswas met with significant fanfare. Its release on Nintendo GameCube marked the end of a years-long hardship between Nintendo and Square Enix that saw theFinal Fantasyfranchisejump from Nintendo systems to PlayStation. Now, Square Enix is launching the remaster on Nintendo Switch as if the past never happened.
