Fortnitehas kicked 2023 off with a pretty big bang, bringing the game’s latest pop-culture crossover. Fitting comfortably alongsidethis Season’s additions of Doom Slayer and Geralt of Rivia,Dead Space’s Isaac Clarke has hitFortnite. While many fans were skeptical when the Isaac Clarke bundle was first leaked about a month ago, against all odds,Fortnitehas somehow pulled through, delivering one of the most detailed skins so far along with a few reactive Back Blings, some unique quests, and an intriguing new Harvesting Tool.
While the Isaac Clarke skin itself is the biggest highlight of theDead SpacexFortnitecrossover bundle, the unique Harvesting Tool in the pack, called the Plasma Saw, actually has some pretty interesting connections to the widerDead Spaceuniverse. While the Plasma Saw looks as though it’s been ripped right out of the mainlineDead Spaceseries, fans might not recognize it right away, and that’s because it actually comes from a pretty obscureDead Spacespin-off.

Hitting the storepage for $12, theFortniteIsaac Clarke bundle, titled the “Strange Transmissions Quest Pack,” can’t actually be bought for V-Bucks, but the bundle has surprisingly great value. Included in the bundle is the Isaac Clarke skin itself, seemingly taken straight from the upcomingDead Space Remake, with practically no stylistic changes to make the rustic outfit look a little more cartoon-y. Isaac’s RIG life meter is also included as a reactive Back Bling, changing from blue to red if the player gets hit. A small model of the game’s primary setting, the USG Ishimura shipis also included as a Back Bling. Purchasing this bundle will give players access to a set of unique, exclusiveDead Space-themed quests that will give them a total of 1500 V-Bucks.
But by far the most intriguing element of this bundle is the Plasma Saw Harvesting Tool, and its accompanying emote. Taking a similar appearance toIsaac’s trusty Plasma Cutter, the Plasma Saw is a small weapon that emits two beams of blue energy constantly. Much like most ofDead Space’s arsenal, the Plasma Saw was actually intended to be a mining tool, but those trying to survive the Necromorph hordes have refashioned it into an effective weapon, perfect for slicing the limbs off of the alien threats.
The Plasma Saw actually comes fromtheDead Space Mobilegame, which launched in 2011. Taking place right between the events of the first and secondDead Space,Dead Space Mobilesees players control Vandal, a Government Sector agent sent to pose as a converted Unitologist as a means to sabotage them. Vandal ends up accidentally unleashing a horde of Necromorphs, and tries to blow up the space station she’s on before they’re set free into the galaxy. Along the way, the player picks up some impressive-looking weapons, some of which are wholly unique to this mobile spin-off. One of those is the Plasma Saw, and though it looks a little different from the one found in theFortnitebundle, their general purpose is pretty similar.
In fact, a version of the Plasma Saw that actually looks closer to the one inFortnitecomes from theanimated movieDead Space: Downfall. Taking place right before the events of the firstDead Space,Dead Space: Downfallsees the crew of the Ishimura dealing with the after effects of coming into contact with The Marker. At one point in the movie, the characters use a larger, two-handed version of the Plasma Saw, which shoots out a blue beam of energy directly in front of it, similar to the one inFortnite’s bundle.
Fortniteis available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
