Fortniteis vaulting one of its more popular weapons this season, the Kinetic Boomerang, only a few weeks after introducing it. The vaulting comes as part ofFortnite’s latest hotfix for its v25.11 update, which replaces the Kinetic Boomerang with the return of a classic weapon, albeit with a major overhaul.
TheKinetic Boomerang was introducedat the start ofFortnite’sChapter 4 Season 3 as part of its flagship Battle Royale mode. Dealing 60 damage to players and 100 damage to structures, the throwable weapon also boasts a unique feature thanks to its Kinetic Ore properties. Players are able to call back the boomerang in mid-flight, which causes an explosion before returning. The Kinetic Boomerang can also ricochet off of certain surfaces, allowing for some fancy trick shots.

News of the Kinetic Boomerang being vaulted broke viaFortnite’s official service Twitter account. The reason for the vaulting is apparently due to an ongoing issue with players “losing control” after they’ve been rebooted. No officialFortniteaccounts have elaborated on exactly what they mean, leaving multiple fans to comment on their confusion on the tweet.Fortnite’s kinetic weapon from Chapter 4 Season 2,the popular Kinetic Blade, met a similar fate towards the end of its own season, though likely due to an exploit rather than a technical issue.
The vaulting is supposed to be temporary, so players may see it come back around in the near future. However, whileFortnitemay have taken a new item away, it has also given players a new version of an old favorite, the Pump Shotgun. Announced in the same tweet, players can now get their hands on the Sharp Tooth Shotgun, confirming the leak of themajor change being made to the returning Pump Shotgun. The new Sharp Tooth Shotgun boasts a tighter spread and longer range than its previous incarnation, and deals 160 max damage at Legendary rarity.
Fortnite’s new Sharp Tooth Shotgun comes in the wake of the Battle Royale’s other new weapon replacement, the Explosive Repeater Rifle. Taking the spot of the now-vaulted Heavy Sniper Rifle, the new rifle also utilizes heavy bullets, dealing up to 40 damage upon impact with another 40 from the round’s subsequent explosion. While lacking the range of the Heavy Sniper, the additional explosive damage to players and structures offers increased versatility.
Considering the shaky nature ofFortnite’s kinetic weapons, it should be interesting to see how they’re implemented in the future.
Fortniteis available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
