Most of August has passed without any major gaming events, but that’s about to change. On August 27, theGamescom Opening Night Liveshow will air, kicking off an all-digitalGamescomconvention. Host Geoff Keighley is already starting to tease some of the games that will be revealed during ONL. More excitingly, he’s revealed the full scale of the event. According to Keighley, Gamescom ONL will feature over 20 different games and will last a healthy two hours long.
In a short message fromKeighleyposted to his official Twitter account, he confirms that he will show over 20 different games “with brand new content.” That content could include new gameplay, announcement trailers, or anything in-between. Keighley also notes that the 20 games will include a diverse line-up of titles ranging from next-gen releases to indie games from all over the world.

So far, only one of the Gamescom ONL games has been teased, that beingFall Guys. Mediatonic has confirmed that the first information aboutFall Guysseason 2 will be revealed during ONL. Publisher Devolver Digital taunted fans, saying “maybe it’ll just be five new team-based see saw levels.” Fans can probably expect something a little less evil. Also confirmed for ONL is an opening music number fromLinkin Park’s Mike Shinoda.
Gamescom has also provided a lengthy list of partnersthat will be participating in the full event, from August 27 through 30. It’s not clear if this list includes those participating in ONL, though. The list definitely doesn’t include Devolver Digital, so perhaps the two aren’t tied. Nevertheless, it opens some interesting possibilities, as it does include Activision Blizzard, Bethesda, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, and Xbox. Those looking forward to next-gen will definitely be crossing their fingers.
For comparison, Gamescom ONL 2019 had an impressive 27 games featured during the show, over a similar 2-hour time period. Games shown included indie titles likeGuiltandEverspace 2, but also major upcoming games includingGears of War 5,NFS Heat,Borderlands 3,Destiny 2’sShadowkeepexpansion, andCall of Duty: Modern Warfare. In other words, the sky is the limit forGamescom ONL 2020. Some major next-gen games could be announced or showcased during the event.
Gamescom Opening Night Livewill be airing on August 27, starting at 10:30 AM PDT, which unfortunately lands right in the middle of work hours for many Americans. Keighley will be sharing more information about the event over the coming week, so potential viewers will know if it’s worth pulling up on their phones or taking a break for. IfFall Guysseason 2 newsisn’t enough to get excited for, that is.
