There is no armor inGenshin Impact. Most characters just tank their enemies' hits with their raw HP bar, unless they have Zhongli or Diona’s shields. But more often than not, those Hilichurl blades and arrows are welcomed by the character’s outfits. So it would make sense for these outfits to be as protective or as practical as possible based on the character’s profession, right?

Well, it’s an anime-themed RPG. So style takes priority over practicality and when it comes to outfits, a lot of the characters' design logic holds up well. It’s just that some of them could have used something more defensive or more fitting for their jobs or backgrounds. These seven characters inGenshin Impactlikely need a better tailor for their garb.

7Lawyer Lingerie By Yanfei

If it weren’t for the head cap, Yanfei being a lawyer would have been a hard sell. While she has one of the most formal professionsinGenshin Impact, her professional attire is also now the most minimalistic. She certainly has no reservations about showing a lot of skin on or off-court. Remove the headgear and the shoes and anyone could easily mistake Yanfei for a beach-goer.

She’s essentially wearing a bikini both to battle and to courthouses. Looking at the usual Liyue clothing style, it’s safe to say that Yanfei’s choice of clothing isn’t a cultural thing. Most peoplein Liyueare dressed generously. While it could be argued that Yanfei’s outfit is a stylistic choice due to her adeptus heritage, she doesn’t exactly care much for that side of her being and prefers to fit in more with humans— attire choice notwithstanding.

6Furious Fedora By Scaramouche

He’s not playable yet but Scaramouche has already been making ripples in theGenshin Impactcommunity. He certainly has one of the most unique character designs and it’s all thanks to that haphazard hat. Seriously, what is that thing? Is it supposed to be some kind of elaborate Japanesekasahat? Because those things at least have practical uses.

Scaramouche’s hat, on the other hand is just a hindrance and annoyance waiting to happen. How does this kid function at all in a day-to-day basis while being adamant about keeping the hat. That cloth hanging from the back also looks heavy and cumbersome. Apparently, he just zips around like lightning to move; that doesn’t seem like an issue since she’s a Raiden Shogun clone anyway. But those shorts don’t do that hat a favor.

5Armored Abs By Arataki Itto

Itto’s attire is semi-excusable since a huge part of his personality is being a brash idiot who challenges everyone to a fight. He also runs a gang and typically starts trouble under the facade of delinquency despite being generally good at heart. At least, according to the lore, he’s a “good bad boy” if that makes sense.

Regardless, he seems to have made some questionable decision regarding his clothing. It appears he was halfway through picking armor but then stopped just so he could show his toned abdomen. That doesn’t really sit well in Inazuma or in any civilization that uses swords or sharp objects as weapons. One good poke at the midsection is enough to destroy some organs no matter how toned the abs are. It’s a miracle how Itto managed to survive thus far, but it’s probably thanks to Kuki Shinobu’s interventions.

4Dog Duds By Gorou

Gorou commits the same tactical blunder as Itto but his outfit choice is worsened by the fact that he’s supposed to be a general and that his physique isn’t even imposing or well-developed. At least Itto looked like he had thick skin and musculature to cushion some blades. Gorou doesn’t look as fit but that didn’t stop him from exposing his midsectionin battles.

Any enemy he faces gets a good advantage already. Just strike the parts that don’t have armor, there goes the Sangonomiya general. There’s a reason breastplates or torso armor were invented and the best of them were worn by important commanders. For a general, Gorou sure forgot the basics of tactics and army equipment.

3Glamorous General By Kokomi

Speaking of Sangonomiya generals, Kokomi is an even bigger shot than Gorou. So it’s only fair for one to expect her to dress for the part and to don as much protection as she can. After all, she’s the most important person in the Sangonomiya Resistance army. But there she is in her mermaid gown, ready to attend a gala or an awards ceremony.

Gorou overview

That’s how Kokomi goes to battle. Jokes aside, that off-shoulder dress with a draped fake fins offers little-to-no tactical value. In fact, any enemy can even use those to their advantage to kill Kokomi in the heat of battle. Even Kujou Sara, Kokomi’s usual enemy on the field, wears something more fitting for the battlefield. Instead, the Sangonomiya General prefers to look like a fish out of water.

2Hardy Help By Noelle

The funny thing about Noelle is that she doesn’t even need to wear all that armor. She’s not aFavonius Knightand also doesn’t seem to have been officially designated as a soldier. As it stands in theGenshin Impactlore, Noelle is just a maid that tidies up the Favonius Headquarters and assists with menial duties.

So she really doesn’t have any business being more heavily armored than the Favonius Knights themselves. Because as per her lore, she doesn’t need to perform any combat-related duties. If anything, her armored should have gone to Kokomi’s design since Kokomi isthegeneral and an actual combatant. Besides, all that plate armor will only slow down a dutiful and hectic maid.

1Phony Pirate By Kaeya

Kaeya, Favonius Cavalry Captain, is one of the earliest characters introducedtoGenshin Impactand one of his most notable physical qualities is the eyepatch on one eye. He later reveals that the eyepatch covers a functioning and healthy eye. Kaeya merely wears the eyepatch for fun and because he compares wearing it to having pants on.

It’s no wonder Diluc thinks the Knights of Favonius are inefficient. Their Cavalry Captain prefers to put his life in danger by using only one eye for any activity, including combat. And no, if Kaeya wanted to train himself by hobbling another body part, then he should have put weights on his limbs instead. Training with just one eye won’t result in any substantial increase incombat skills.
