The Room of Requirement, also known as the Come and Go Room, is a secret chamber atHogwarts located on the castle’sseventh floor, in the left corridor, directly opposite the troll tapestry. This enchanted room reveals itself only when someone desperately needs something, providing them with their desired item. The room has the ability to transfigure objects and contains several books full of information, as well as training equipment. To gain access, one must walk past the room three times while concentrating on their specific need, causing the entrance to become visible.

The Room of Requirement does not even appear on the Marauder’s Map, a magical map that unveils the entirety of Hogwarts Castle, including its grounds, classes, secret passages, and hallways. Every Time The Room Of Requirement Showed Up In The Harry Potter Movies

The Room of Requirement has made numerous appearances in theHarry Pottermovies. Its first mention was inHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fireduring the Triwizard Tournament when Dumbledore shared a story with Igor Kakaroff about how he stumbled upon a room full of chamber pots when he urgently needed a toilet. While the name of the room wasn’t specifically mentioned, it strongly implied that Dumbledore had encountered the Room of Requirement.

However, it wasn’t until the fifth entry,Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, that we learned the room’s proper name. It was Dobby who revealed the existence of the Room of Requirement to Harry. When Harry sought a discreet location for Dumbledore’s Army to meet away from Professor Umbridge’s watchful eyes, Dobby suggested the Come and Go Room, also known as the Room of Requirement. Dobby explained its frequent use by house elves and shared a story aboutassisting another house-elf, Winky after she became intoxicated on Butterbeer. He also mentioned that Filch, the caretaker of Hogwarts, also came across the room while trying to find additional cleaning supplies. It was also in the Room of Requirement that Harry shared his first kiss with Cho Chang, a Ravenclaw student.

In the sixth movie,Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, it was revealed that Draco Malfoy, discovered and utilized the room to create a pathway for Death Eaters, part ofVoldemort’s plan to assassinate the Headmaster. While talking to Harry, Malfoy said that he was virtually living in the room for over a year.

The room also played a vital role in the first part of the finalHarry Pottermovie,Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, where it was used as a hideout when Neville Longbottom came across it while he and other students were seeking refuge from the new Hogwarts staff after Professor Snape took over as Headmaster. However, the room’s inability to transfigure food was one of its major drawbacks, which was addressed by making a pathway to Hogsmeade’s Hogshead. This provided a passage for food, and interestingly, the inn was owned by Aberforth Dumbledore, Albus Dumbledore’s brother.

In the final movie,Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow Part 2,Harry, Ron, and Hermionevisit the Room of Requirement to discover that Voldemort had hidden one of his Horcruxes there: the Lost Diadem of Ravenclaw. This diadem contains a part of Voldemort’s soul and is essential to destroy in order to defeat the Dark Lord.

Adding to its appearances, the Room of Requirement resurfaces in the recentFantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledoremovie, set years before the events of the Harry Potter movies. A young Albus Dumbledore along with company was shown to use the Room of Requirement to devise a plan to defeat Grindelwald. This contradicts the originalHarry Potterstory, where Dumbledore was portrayed as unfamiliar with the room’s workings, creating a plot hole. It is unknown whether the Room of Requirement still exists considering thatMalfoy and his friendscast an evil spell against Harry while he was searching for the Horcrux, causing the entire place to catch fire.
