House of the Dragonhas tons of fans guessing who might appear in the hit series next season. Its casting has been incredibly on point so far, but Henry Cavill, who has previously been fan cast in numerous roles, has denied having a place in the world of Ice and Fire.

House of the Dragonhad an excellent first season. Some have gone so far as to sayHouse of the Dragondeserves Emmys next year. Many of the performances were praised, including that of Paddy Considine’s turn as King Viserys, Matt Smith’s Daemon, Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra, and far more. The show is poised to also launch or further the careers of quite a few young actors who were standouts in their portrayals, including Milly Alcock, who portrayed a young Rhaenyra, Emily Carey, who played a young Alicent, and Ewan Mitchell, who portrayed a teenage Aemond Targaryen.

When appearing on Josh Horowitz’Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Horowitz asked Cavill about the rumors and speculation that he was headed to Westeros. “I mean, to be fair, when I was watchingHouse of the DragonI was like, uh, I feel like a lot of these guys can make a really good Witcher,” Cavill said. When asked ifThe Witcherhad “scratched that itch” - referring to starring in a fantasy series - Cavill responded, “I mean, I think it’d be cool to be in Westeros. I really do. I don’t think it’s… I don’t think there’s a place for me in there, though.” Horowitz joked that Cavill did not deny being inLoki,to which Cavill said plainly, “I am not going to be inLoki.”

Ironically, Cavill has been a popular fan cast for Aegon the Conqueror. While that period has not yet been covered inHouse of the Dragon,it’s an important event in Targaryen historythat could eventually happen in the anthology format of the show. Aegon and his sister-wives Rhaenys and Visenya conquered Westeros and set up a dynasty that would rule the Seven Kingdoms for almost three hundred years. Cavill’s name has also been thrown out as a possible casting for a young Robert Baratheon.

GivenHouse of the Dragon’s penchant for hiring mostly-unknown actors, it’s possible they may be going for lesser-known actors moving forward.Cavill is looking forward to playing Superman again, which also means he will probably be preoccupied for the next few years. Of course,House of the Dragonoffers little opportunity for him to appear while it centers on the Dance of the Dragons period.

House of the Dragonhas plenty of charactersto introduce in season 2, and while Cavill may not be a fit for any of them, he does have a few years to reconsider. Aegon’s Conquest would probably be better served as a movie as well, so his time would not necessarily be as taken up by the constraints of filming a television show. Until then, it seems like Cavill won’t be joining the Game of Thrones universe anytime soon.

House of the Dragonis streaming on HBO Max.
