Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamityis in players' hands at last and seems to be well liked. Thefirst reviews were positive, and where gameplay is concerned, it seems players' experiences are positive too.

Of course, there are some caveats.Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamitymay share DNA withBreath of the Wild, but it is still aDynasty Warriorsgame at heart. There’s a lot of missions involving cutting down swathes of enemies with flashy attacks, and it won’t be for everybody. However, there is (or was) a more pressing problem with the game. Several bugs stopped progress for players completely, but Nintendo has already addressed these issues.

These bugs hit at different parts throughout the campaign and had some serious disparity in what brought them about. One stopped progress after choosing certain stuff in the two-player menu, another stopped progress after defeating enemies with certain moves, etc. Nintendo’s day one patch has, according to Nintendo, cleared these up and made the game playable again. PerhapsNintendo’s takedowns ofHyrule Warriors: Age of Calamitystreamswas to stop these bugs from getting public attention, but it was more likely for other reasons.

If these bugs impacted a large number of players, it doesn’t show inHyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity’s reviews. Critics are divided over the game, but it’s seldom because of performance issues or gameplay complaints. For the most part, the story seems to be the contentious point, either for what it does or doesn’t do. It seems several players really wanted even more out of the story and the connections with the four champions than they got. At least with the new patch players don’t have to worry about the game suddenly crashing in multiplayer, so they can experience the full story and make their own decisions.

The patch also did one more thing: it added Spanish audio. While this may seem like a no brainer, lots of games launch without full localization in several languages. Whether or not audio in different languages will be added is unknown as of this article, but it’s something to hope for.Unlocking the Great Fairiesand hearing their dulcet tones in many languages would certainly be a treat.

Thanks to this patch, players can hopefully complete the game without incident. IfHyrule Warriors: Age of Calamityproves successful, maybe Nintendo will expand theBreath of the Wildtime even more and take even more chances with theZeldaseries.A game starring Urbosawould be a good place to start.
