Reddit user Ryzbl recently shared a screenshot from one of the floating islands that they discovered in theirLegend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomadventure. TheTears of the Kingdomprotagonist Link is approaching a mechanical green object that resembles a motorcycle that is used to reflect Kaneda’s vehicle fromAkirawith a notable swap from red to green. Shortening the title of the game to one word in order tomatch theAkiracover like other fan arthas, the design sees bold letters spelling outZelda, with bright green Japanese characters that presumably spell the same word since they differ from those used inAkira.
According to Ryzbl, the main imagery in theirZelda: Tears of the Kingdomfan art was captured from their gameplay, with font added separately in Photoshop to make the reference clearer. TheTears of the Kingdomplayer confirmed that the hardest detail to nail in theirAkira-inspired fan art was the angle of the shadow protruding from theNintendo hero in the green tunicas he approaches Ryzbl’s customized bike. Because of how wellZelda: Tears of the KingdomandAkirago together in Ryzbl’s art, many fans have already made edits to the image so that they can easily transfer it to a phone or monitor background, with others hoping for a poster or t-shirt version.
Despite Ryzbl being the creator of thisLegend of Zelda: Tears of the KingdomandAkiramashup art, there’s already an unrelated account trying to profit from their work by selling a “skewed version” on a poster. Given that shows likeCyberpunk Edgerunnerscontinue to reference the popular anime movie, and anAkiracollaboration withFortnitehas been leaked, thisLegend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomfan art may be far from the last project to pay homage to the 1988 film.
