The Day Before: A Gloomy Survival MMO
The Day Beforeis an open-world survival MMO, meaning that players will be able to with friends and explore the world together. Drawing some inspiration from the COVID-19 pandemic that plagued the world, the game takes players to a dystopian version of America where nothing is guaranteed, and survivors have to make do with whatever resources and supplies they can find and trade for. As one might expect, guns will be a huge part of the game. Hence, weapons will also be customizable.
To find what they need to survive, players inThe Day Beforewill have to search skyscrapers, vehicles, and houses, meaning exploration will be a central aspect of the game. One of the environments revealed is a beautifully detailed, multi-story mall where players can loot valuables including jewelry and cellphones. There is also the grassy countryside with rolling hills, tall pine trees, and skinny dirt roads. To explore the vast world, players will also be able to drive vehicles. However, in the spirit of realism, cars will need repairing.

Exploration cannot be done haphazardly, because there are strangers both friendly and hostile that players may cross paths with. When a slightly calmer environment is wanted, players will be able toretreat to survivor colonieswhere they can help with the restoration of normal society. Survivor colonies will also provide opportunities for players to sell any collected loot and communicate with other fellow survivors.
Is The Day Before a Horror Game?
As trailers reveal,The Day Beforewill have plentyof horror elements. Although cooperation between players is possible, not every player one comes across is going to be friendly. As such, players will have to be on the lookout for hostile humans who are willing to kill whoever is in their path for food, weapons, and clothing. Fortunately, if one gets the upper hand on their foes, one can also loot them for their resources. In the world ofThe Day Before, one must either hunt or be hunted.
Humans are not the only danger that lurks, however. Players will also have to deal withthe zombie-like infectedwho crave nothing but raw flesh. The infected do not remain in urban areas, and even a drive to the countryside may have players standing face to face with the flesh-eaters. Players may find hordes of the infected attracted to them if they make noise by shooting or using explosives. Quick legs, loaded weapons, and a sharp mind are the only things that will ensure survival against these enemies.
The Day Beforelooks very promising, and the impressive visuals and high-paced action are hard to ignore. Although it may bear some similarities to populargames such asThe Last of Us, it seems to be an effective blend of some of the most popular survival horror elements in recent years. If the game manages to live up to the expectations it has laid down, it may be one of the most interesting games of 2022.
The Day Beforeis set to release on PC on June 15, 2025. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are also in development.
