Summary
JoJo’s BizarreAdventureis known for its stand abilities, among many other things. Stands were introduced inStardust Crusaders,after Hamon was phased out, and are described as a manifestation of a person’s life energy or fighting spirit.Many stands are incredibly powerful,making their users invicible against most foes. However, much like how an individual’s life choices can lead them to an early grave, so too can their stand abilities.
Certain stands, like Jotaro Kujo’s Star Platinum, seem to refuse to let harm come to their users. This is shown at the beginning ofStardust Crusaderswhere Jotaro points a gun to his head and is prevented from dying. The flipside is stands who can actively harm their user. This was first made clear when Holy Kujo, Joseph’s daughter, was shown to have a stand that overpowered her in a nearly fatal manner. Whether they wish to be hurt or not,these stands have the potential to damage their user.
5Geb
Part 3:Stardust Crusaders
Gebis a flexible mass of water, ironically named for the Egyptian God of the Earth. Geb’s consistency allows it both to evade most attacks and damage its foes as well. It is controlled by the fearless blind assassin, N’Doul, who servesthe main villain, DIO.
Despite N’Doul proving capable of taking on most of Jotaro’s group, a combination of attacks by Jotaro and Iggy leads to his defeat. After being cornered, N’Doul uses his stand to commit suicide. This is presumably to prevent Joseph from reading his mind with Hermit Purple. It is unknown why Geb is willing to kill its user and Star Platinum is not. It likely has something to do with either N’Doul not fearing death, or more actively wishing for it in that scenario.
4Dragon’s Dream
Part 6:Stone Ocean
Kenzou is an elderly martial artist known for once being a cult leader and drinking his own urine. He is currently incarcerated in the Green Dolphin Street Prison, whereEnrico Pucci servesas Chaplain. Despite his quirks, he is a very threatening foe, making unique use of feng shui to determine how best to attack an opponent. His stand,Dragon’s Dream, allows him to read the coordinates for lucky positions, where taking damage is impossible, and unlucky positions, where it can prove devastating.
Dragon’s Dream is an autonomous stand, much to its user’s chagrin. It describes its abilities to Kenzou’s foes, and acts as a sort of “judge” during the fight. It strives for neutrality, giving advice to Kenzou’s opponents, and also divining coordinates for them. Kenzou is defeated for good once Narciso Anasui uses his Diver Down to turn Kenzou’s legs into springs, disallowing him from reaching his lucky positions.
3Purple Haze
Part 5:Vento Aureo
The short-tempered mobster, Pannacotta Fugo, possesses a similarly volatile stand.Purple Haze’sprimary power is a flesh-eating virus that it can release from its capsules in seconds. The virus is capable of dissolving an entire human being in under a minute, making it one of thescariest stands in the series. This was shown when it pummeled Illuso, a mobster in opposition to Fugo, while fatally infecting him.
Unfortunately, this stand comes with a pretty significant drawback: it can easily harm its user. Fugo is also unable to cure anyone of the virus once they have been infected (although certain antibodies can, for now.) For these reasons, Fugo doesn’t like using Purple Haze too often.
2Cheap Trick
Part 4:Diamond is Unbreakable
Masazo Kinoto is a quiet architect who was hiredby Rohan Kishibeto determine how much it would cost to repair his house. He was inadvertently made a stand user by Yoshihiro Kira’s arrow. Unfortunately,his stand was the worst in the series. It would threaten to kill its user if anyone stared at their back, a promise it made good on.
Complicating things,Cheap Trickcould speak to any living being, overlooking language barriers and allowing even animals to take interest in a user’s back. It also used tactics such as insults to provoke people further. After Kinoto’s death, Cheap Trick re-attached itself to Rohan. Fortunately, Rohan was able to outsmart Cheap Trick, getting the stand to detach itself in Ghost Girl’s Alley, where malicious spirits dragged it away.
1Milagroman
Part 7:JoJolion
Milagromanseems like a pretty good racket at first; it gives the user untold riches. The problem is that nobody actually knows what to do with that much money. No matter what way the user spends their money, it will always come back to them with interest. The riches will continue to accumulate until their fatal conclusion. Milagroman was manifested by an arms dealer many years ago, who destroyed his family and home in a rage after losing a million-dollar lawsuit.
The money can alter its appearance to suit the user’s location, but the result is always the same. The only two ways to get rid of it are returning the money or letting another destroy it. After having the money foisted upon him in a wallet that was left behind, the greedy Joshu Higashikata continued to spend it until he became concerned with the amount available. Only using his stand to sneak the money he was given back to its previous owner, Zahei Nigatake, was he freed from the curse.
