Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2was a well-received title by both fans and critics when it first launched in 2004. When it was announced that the game was being ported to the Nintendo Switch,Knights of the Old Republicfans were glad to get a chance to return to one of their favorite RPG experiences. However, when the game actually launched, it turned out that the Switch version ofKnights of the Old Republic 2had a game breaking bugthat stopped players from completing its story.
The bug would occur after the Basilisk Crash cutscene when landing on Onderon, causing a game crash as soon as the cinematic was completed. This meant that players would be stuck at that point in the story, without any real way to fix the issue. The developer of the Switch port of the RPG,Aspyr commented onKnights of the Old Republic 2’sgame breaking bug, stating that it would come out with a fix for it shortly.

Fans initially weren’t given a timeframe of when that patch would come out forKnights of the Old Republic 2, but it seems that now Aspyr has finally released a fix for the bug. Titled the Onderon Hotfix Patch, it attempts to deal with some of the top reported problems players have had with the Switch version ofKnights of the Old Republic 2. On top of the list is a fix to the game crash issues occurring after certain cutscenes, with a reference to the Basilisk Crash scene in particular.
As well as dealing with the famed Basilisk Crash bug, Aspyr is also dealing with other problems inKnights of the Old Republic 2. Some mid and late game saves were also reportedly broken for players, with areas like Dantooine and Korriban being known to cause inexplicable crashes. These have been fixed in the Onderon Hotfix Patch, along with a specific loading screen loop issue that occurred onKOTOR’sEbon Hawkwhen Sith Troopers would board the ship.
The Onderon Hotfix Patch has been live since June 30 at 12 PM CST and will hopefully bring an end to at least some of the woes Switch players have had while playingKnights of the Old Republic 2on their portable console. With any luck, this is the beginning of the end for the multiple severe technical issues that saw some points deducted fromKnights of the Old Republic 2in the reviewsfor its Switch port.
