Valve’s hit 2009 multiplayer survival horror gameLeft 4 Dead 2came back into prominence last week thanks to the release of afree official update calledLeft 4 Dead 2: The Last Standthat was created entirely by fans. The game has accrued a large catalog of community-made content through mods over the years, and one replaces the classic zombie game’s common infected with the characters from modern multiplayer hitFall Guys: Ultimate Knockout.

For the uninitiated,Fall Guysis a battle royale in which players are costumed “beans” who have to survive multiple rounds of obstacle courses andMario Party-style minigames to obtain a crown. SomeFall Guysgames such as Door Dashhave crowds of players converging on individual points of interest, which looks not too dissimilar from a horde of infected in theLeft 4 Deadseries.

Given that, the inspiration for this particular mod turning zombies intoFall Guysbeans is pretty clear. DragonDances uploaded it to Steam Workshop on September 25, just a day afterLeft 4 Dead 2’s The Last Stand expansion released. They say it is a collection of mods for the character models and sounds created by another user named “merc,” but the ID codes provided lead back to DragonDances' page.

The breadth of mods available to use inLeft 4 Dead 2cover a huge range of subjects, so it isn’t surprising to see popular new titles receive player-made content for the survival horror game.Fall Guysbecame such a sensation following its release in August that even celebrities and star athletes have been playing it. Earlier this month, members of theLA Chargers football team playedFall Guyson their stadium’s jumbotron.

Left 4 Dead 2is not the only game fans have moddedFall Guyscharacters into. In fact, it isn’t even the only first-person shooter that lets players blast apart hordes of beans. One game designer created aDoomandFall Guysmashup called “Doom Guys,“in which Doomguy can rip and tear through armies of otherwise cute, oblong characters.

With Halloween season right around the corner, now seems as good a time as any to jump into a zombie game likeLeft 4 Dead 2, whether or not one is interested in turning its hordes into colorful beans. At the same time,Fall GuysSeason 2 is set to begin in October, which should offer fans another multiplayer option with less firearms.
