The first full trailer for Marvel’s highly-anticipatedLokiseries has arrived and it’s packed with all sorts of MCU goodness. Tricks, twists, and time-bending tumult are signature themes in any story involving Loki, but perhaps what was most exciting about the trailer was that it contained several Easter eggs from both the cinematic and the comic book lore; many of which can be easily missed if you don’t pay close enough attention.
The trailer presumably begins after the moment inAvengers: Endgamewhen Tom Hiddleston’s Lokisnatched the Tesseract from the Avengersduring the kerfuffle in Stark Tower. Out of nowhere, he appears in handcuffs, escorted by an armored agent in an undisclosed location that gives off heavy ’70s vibes. Turns out, he’s been brought to the headquarters of the Time Variance Authority (TVA); a place he claims to be familiar with.

The building itself is riddled with Marvel Easter eggs - the statues that are shown by the double elevators are a reference to theTime-Keepers, three celestial beings who exist at the finality of all surviving realities in the multiverse. They were created by He Who Remains, the last director of the TVA as a gift to the future and a kind of “insurance policy” for retired TVA workers.
The Time-Keeper statues are strategically placed outside the office of one Ravonna Lexus Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), the 40th-century princess turned TVA agent who is linked to the villainous time-benderKang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). Such a reference is relevant to Phase 4 as Kang the Conqueror is set to appear in the upcomingAnt-Man and The Wasp: Quantumaniafilm.
There also appears to be a Skrull in the lobby as Loki is hauled across the TVA building. Skrulls are a race of shapeshifting aliens that were first introduced inCaptain Marveland they will eventually feature in a new Marvel series calledSecret Invasion. Appearing later on in the trailer isOwen Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius, the TVA agent from the comics who frequently had run-ins with the Fantastic Four. Mobius' appearance is another Easter egg in itself—unlike what is seen in the comics, Wilson’s Mobius sports a suit and mustache that is supposed to be an ode to Marvel Comics editor Mark Gruenwald, the publisher’s lead expert on continuity and time-related matters.
Mobius explains that time is in disarray due to Loki’s Tesseract theft. Removing the stone from its counterparts causednew branch realitiesto form, and therefore Loki must now help the TVA fix what he has undone. Upon recruitment, the word “VARIANT” is written across the back of Loki’s uniform—such a label suggests that this Loki is not the same one that died at the hands of Thanos inInfinity War, but rather the mischievous version from 2012 that caused the Avengers all sorts of problems.
As the trailer shows scenes of Loki on his time-fixing missions, fans can spot various locations of interest, including the Asgard throne room, a destroyed Stark Tower, the ancient city of Pompeii, a Vormir-like place, and various buildings with Roxxon Corp logos.
Roxxon Corp., in particular, has shown up before in other Marvel works likeIron Manand Netflix’sDaredevil, and its inclusion in the Loki trailer could indicate a major role for the company in the story. Additionally, the scene at the Vormir-like place shows Loki accompanied by an unnamed woman who looks a lot likeScarlett Johannson’s Black Widowfrom the back. This could hint at a possible cameo appearance from Natasha Romanoff, or the introduction of a new character who fans believe could be Lady Loki.
Marvel’sLokipremieres on Disney+ this June 11.
