There’ll Be More to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Than Its Cinematic Trailer

All the way back in September 2018, just asMarvel’s Spider-Manwas about to hit store shelves, Insomniac and PlayStation released a cinematic trailer for the game titled “Be Greater.” In just one minute, the Be Greater trailer manages to not only set upMarvel’s Spider-Man’s core cast of villains, but also set the tone for the entire game, and encapsulate the entire message and themes of the Spider-Man character, showing him being beaten down by multiple adversaries, only to pick himself right back up and fight back.

But of course,Spider-Man’s cinematic Be Greater trailer didn’t reveal everything that the game had in store. While the cinematic trailer showedVulture, Electro, Rhino, Scorpion, Shocker, and Mr. Negative, it didn’t even hint towards the appearance of Doc Ock in the game. Similarly, the construction site setting of the cinematic trailer only gets brief screen time in the finished product, and it isn’t the site of the final climactic battle with any ofMarvel’s Spider-Man’s villains. Though the Be Greater trailer did peel back the curtain and give fans a look at what was to come, it didn’t really reveal anything new, and that’s likely the case forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s own cinematic trailer.

Released just a week ago, “Be Greater. Together.” isMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s own take on that original cinematic TV spot. Coming in at just a minute once again, thiscinematicSpider-Man 2trailersets up the game’s tone and story perfectly, showing the two Spider-Men struggling with their own insecurities before joining forces to take on Venom together. Arguably, this trailer is just as good, if not even better than the first game’s, with some stellar voice work, some truly brilliant cinematography and imagery, and music that swells perfectly in time with the action on-screen.

But whileMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s “Be Greater. Together.” trailer is excellent, fans shouldn’t spend too long over-analyzing every frame of it. Much like the first game’s Be Greater trailer,Spider-Man 2’s cinematic TV spot probably doesn’t give too much away about the game’s actual content. For instance, while Peter and Miles might fight Venom in the city streets at some point during the game, it likely isn’t the location of the game’s climactic final battle.Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is sure to have plenty of secrets and surprises in store for fans, and none of those are likely to be properly teased in this cinematic trailer, though that doesn’t stop it from being suitably amazing.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2will be released October 20 exclusively for PS5.
