While this can seem like a purely detrimental effect, there are several ways in which discarding cards can prove beneficial to the player during the match.

Cards With Discard Effects
There are a number of cards with Discard effects in the game, though the specifics of which card will be discarded are down to each individual card.Cards like Blade and Sword MasterDiscard a single card at random on reveal, while Lady Sif will always Discard the card with the highest cost. Colleen Wing, on the other hand, always Discards the lowest-cost card in the player’s hand.
This is important when constructing decks that take advantage of Discard effects since being able to better predict which card will be Discarded can be a great boon to certain strategies. Some cards also allow players to Discard cards from their opponent’s hand, such as Black Bolt and Moon Knight, and certain Locations can Discard cards as well, like Sokovia.

The other half of any good Discard strategy, there are several cards that benefit tremendously from Discard effects in one way or another. Good examples of this include Hela, who plays all of a player’s Discarded cards to random locations when revealed, and the Helicarrier, which adds three cards to the player’s hand at random when Discarded.

Another card that benefits greatly from Discard effects is Morbius, who gains +2 power for every card Discarded throughout the game, while Wolverine can summon himself to a random location when he is Discarded, making him an excellent way of mitigating the risks of using cards like Blade and Gambit. It’s also worth running cards like Ghost Rider, who can call a random Discarded card to the location it is played on.
