For the past two weeks,MultiVersusplayers have had access to theSuper Smash Bros.-like fighting game’s Open Beta. This first chapter inMultiVersus' soft launch is soon coming to an end, however, as the “pre-season” wraps up and Season 1 arrives. Starting August 9,MultiVersusSeason 1 will launch alongside the release of Morty fromRick & Mortyas a fighter. It also marks the start ofMultiVersus' first full-fledged Battle Pass, early details of which developer Player First Games has now shared. As currentMultiVersusplayers already know, the pre-season version ofMultiVersus' Battle Pass is somewhat underwhelming. There’s bothAdventure Time’s Finn in Pajamasskin and a Cake skin for Jake at tier 15, but otherwise, the Battle Pass is very thin. As expected,MultiVersusgame director Tony Huynh has confirmed the pre-season Battle Pass is limited by nature. A full Battle Pass will arrive for Season 1, with both a full price and a full collection of tiers for players to progress through with all-new content to unlock.RELATED:MultiVersus Director Says He’ll ‘Try Really Hard’ to Add Two Popular Cartoon Network CharactersIn the pre-season, the Battle Pass cost just 300 Gleamium. InSeason 1 ofMultiVersus, Huynh says he thinks the price will be 950 Gleamium. Currently, $10 will buy 1,000 Gleamium, leaving players with just enough to feel like they need to buy more to get something from theMultiVersusshop. As for tiers, the pre-season had just 15 for players to progress through. In Season 1,MultiVersusplayers will be able to unlock a full 50 tiers of content.
Huynh doesn’t provide any further information regarding theMultiVersusBattle Passfor Season 1, soMultiVersusplayers will just have to wait to find out everything in store. It’s safe to assume that the Season 1 Battle Pass will feature more of what was included in the pre-season Battle Pass, though. Expect the Battle Pass to include badges, profile icons, Toast, XP boosts, stickers, Gold, banner backgrounds, emotes, ring-out animations, and skins.
One big looming question is whether Player First Games will follow the trend set by other live service games and include Gleamium in the Battle Pass. Games likeFortniteallow players to earn back what they spent for the Battle Pass, plus more. This encourages people to continue playing, as well as spend more money. But some live service games don’t have as much faith and prefer the money over potential player retention.
There was someworry during theMultiVersuspre-seasonthat completing the Battle Pass would be too demanding. Player First then added extra seasonal challenges for bonus Battle Pass XP, which helped make progression very manageable. Now Player First just has to add a feature to continue rewardingMultiVersusplayers after they complete the Battle Pass and players will likely be very happy with what’s arriving August 9.
MultiVersusis available now in Open Beta on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
