Stranger Thingsstar Millie Bobby Brown is rapidly approaching the point in her acting career where “Stranger Thingsstar” will no longer be appropriate. Having played prominent roles in a number of high-profile projects, includingLegendary’sGodzilla vs. Kong,which features far less kaiju kissing than it could have, the ambitious young performer can now easily be associated with a wide assortment of films. One such film is the surprise Netflix hitEnola Holmes, and fans of the fledgling detective now have a new reason to get excited.
Netflix has finally announced a sequel to their filmEnola Holmes, starring Brown in the title role andHenry Cavill as the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. The sequel will see both stars returning as their respective characters, along with director Harry Bradbeer and writer Jack Thorne. Just like its predecessor, the follow-upEnola Holmesfilm will be inspired by Nancy Springer’s series of books sharing the same title. Brown herself celebrated the news with a short post on Instagram simply stating “the sequel is afoot.”

The firstEnola Holmessaw Brown as the equally clever younger sister of famed (even in-universe) detective Sherlock Holmes and his brother Mycroft (Sam Claflin). Feeling stifled by attempts to turn her into a “proper” young lady and empowered by practical skills ingrained in her by her mother (Helena Bonham Carter) over the years, she sets out on her own. This stems partly from her rebellious and ingenious spirit, as well as her mother’s mysterious disappearance.
Luckily, things have finally been settled after a recent copyright lawsuitwith the estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who created the character ofSherlock Holmes, so the path is clear to begin work on the sequel. After the firstEnola Holmesfilm established Brown’s character as a clever sleuth in her own right, it seems likely that the next entry will focus more on Enola solving cases of her own, just like in the books that inspired it. Springer’s series of stories currently consists of 6 entries, with the most recent (The Case of the Gypsy Goodbye) releasing in 2010, so there is still plenty of material to work with.
TheEnola Holmesfilm earned plenty of attentionand praise upon release, quickly topping the Netflix streaming charts alongsideRatched, a psychological thriller series that explores the backstory of Nurse Mildred Ratched from the 1975 filmOne Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Much of the recognition was directed at Brown’s performance, which stood out as a highlight of the already well-regarded movie. This earned her the “Favorite Movie Actress” honor at the 2021 Kids' Choice Awards, which she won alongside the “Favorite Female TV Star” award forStranger Things.
