Despite supposedly releasing at some point later this year, there isn’t currently a whole lot known about the upcomingDead Spaceremake.EA Motivehas shown off several aspects of the game, but the only official finalized look at it so far has been the initial reveal trailer from last July, which didn’t feature any gameplay. Because of the lack of trailers, there are still plenty of questions about the remake that fans have, but perhaps one of the biggest is how the game will stand out from the original.
With so many iconic elements from the originalDead Spaceseries that could be brought back, EA Motive has some big decisions to make regarding what the studio wants to keep and what it wants to scrap in favor of its own ideas. While those choices are up to the studio and its leadership, one way for the remake to stand out that wouldn’t require any major changes to the story or setting would be to introduce a plethora of new death animations for both Isaac Clarke and the antagonistic necromorphs.

Dead Spaceis known for not pulling any punches when it comes to portraying thegruesome deaths that Isaac Clarke can faceif he lets his guard down in his fight against the necromorphs. What makesDead Spacespecial is that when he dies, Isaac rarely just ragdolls on the floor. Instead, a brief cutscene usually plays where the necromorph he’s fighting gets the better of him and kills him in a unique way. Because of how many different species of necromorphs there are, there are a numerous ways for them to torture poor Isaac. Fans quickly latched onto how great the death animations are and filled YouTube with compilations of the best ones from the series.

EA Motive should capitalize on the community’s love for Isaac’s horrific deaths by adding its own set of gruesome animations to the game. While it seems like a small detail that could easily be overlooked, it’s a staple of the series that EA Motive should absolutely make good use of, especially if the studio is planning on adding its own new types of necromorphs to the franchise. The over-the-top death animations also add a significant amount to thelore of theDead Spaceseries, as they usually give some character to the individual species of necromorphs. EA Motive has the opportunity to continue adding to the lore while also trying its hand at creating new fan-favorite animations that will help the remake stand out.
The Necromorph Rag-Doll
While Isaac’s death animations are some ofthe best moments ofDead Space, the actual killing of necromorphs often leaves a lot to be desired. Dismemberment is a satisfying way of killing enemies, but as soon as a necromorph loses all of its HP, it simply falls to the floor limp without much ceremony. Given how much the community loves the creative death animations that depict Isaac’s gruesome demise, it seems like EA Motive could create something new for the series by having similar animations for necromorph deaths.
Obviously, it would be tedious if every time the player were to kill an enemy a cutscene plays, but making a special animation for the end of a necromorph’s life could give theDead Spaceremake another way to stand out from the original series. After all,EA Motive has done a lot of work with its dismemberment engine, and it would be interesting to see what creative ways it could be implemented outside of combat.
TheDead Spaceremake is currently in development.
