Rumors are swirling that Nintendo has a newMario Kartgame in development for the Nintendo Switch, and that the game is going to be taking the series in a bold new direction. If the rumors are to be believed, the newMario Kartgame is going to be a crossover title in the vein ofSuper Smash Bros., featuring a variety of characters from different Nintendo franchises, not just those that originated in theSuper Marioseries.

Whether or not there’s any truth to these claims remains to be seen, but another leaker has thrown their hat in the ring. Nintendo leaker Zippo, who has accurately leaked Nintendo news in the past but like other leakers doesn’t have a perfect track record, has claimed that they’ve heard that thenewMario Kartgamewill be released as a way to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary, which is this year. It’s unclear if this means that the game will actually be out this year, or if Nintendo will simply start the marketing push for it.

Beyond that, Zippo believes that the newMario Kartgame will feature characters fromARMS,Pikmin, andStar Fox, with the game also offering alternate costumes with which players can customize the characters. Zippo added that the newMario Kartwill also have “expanded single player content,” but did not elaborate on what that would entail.

Fans should take this information with a massive grain of salt, as with any “leak” or rumor. However, Zippo is far from the only person that’s made claims about a newMario Kartgame being in development for the Switch. The rumors really started picking up when a video game analyst from Japan said that they areaware of a newMario Kartgame in development for Switchthat would have a new “twist” for the series.

From there, other people chimed in, claiming that the newMario Kartwould be a crossover game. There is some disagreement on what exactly the title of the newMario Kartgame will be, though. It seems some believe that the newMario Kartis going to be calledMario Kart 9, whereas others believe it will be calledMario Kart 10orMario Kart Crossroads. Ultimately, until Nintendo itself announces the project (if it even truly exists), all fans can do is speculate.

Considering themassive sales success ofMario Kart 8, a newMario Kartgame is an inevitability. The only question is if these rumors about it are true or not.
