Following the recent successes ofStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderand revival ofStar Wars Battlefront 2, EA appears to be firing on all cylinders with Disney’s license. After surviving the loot box controversy, DICE has managed to add tons of new content toBattlefront 2and turning its fate around.Fallen Orderalso received a free content update earlier this month and has alsopassed 10 million unique players, an impressive milestone for a brand new IP. Wanting to strike while the iron is hot, EA could be getting to reveal the next bigStar Warsgame sooner than most fans think.

Utilizing teases from senior journalists like Jason Schreier and Jeff Grubb, one thread on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subReddit has made a compelling argument that the oft rumoredStar Wars Maverickis going to be revealed on June 2. As legitimate as this may seem based on the evidence, fans should take the following theory with a grain of salt as neither Disney or EA has officially commented on the currently unannounced title.

The rumor mill started churning yesterday as EA Motive finally joined Twitter and posted for the first time. Noted journalist Jason Schreier responded with a playful tweet that they’re likely getting ready for a game announcement. He followed up the Tweet by responding to a person that the announcement is going to be aStar Warsgame. Venture Beat journalist Jeff Grubb jumped on the conversation by adding a gif of Tom Cruise playing his character Maverick from the upcoming movieTop Gun: Maverick.

While fans began to get excited at what they’ve been seeing, Jason continued to fan the flames a bit by posting his Kotaku article from earlier in the year detailing thecanceledBattlefrontspin-off game, which also touches on another game that is currently being worked on at EA Motive.

The final piece to this puzzle came from Jeff Grubb who updated his Summer Game Mess schedule where he’s trying to keep track of all the upcoming game events and announcements. On June 2, Grubb lists Mel Gibson picture, which doesn’t immediately look like anything. However, the potentialStar Warstease comes from the fact that Mel Gibson was in a film called Maverick back in 1994.

Not much is known aboutStar Wars Maverickoutside of what was leaked earlier in March when a single image was discovered from anaccidental early addition to the PlayStation Networkdatabase. The image shows things like a Death Star and X-Wings, which have led many to assume thatMaverickwill be bringing back the space combat genre previously seen in fan favorite titles likeX-Wing VS. TIE FighterorRogue Squadron. With multiplayer heavily hinted at in the leak, fans may be dogfighting sooner than expected.

Star Wars: Project Maverickis unofficially confirmed for PS4 and has no current release date.
