Nintendo just wrapped up its July Mini Direct today, with less announcements than anticipated. It’s apparently not the only Nintendo Direct that fans will be seeing this year, however, as Nintendo stated today in its press release to expect more Mini Directs in 2020.
In a press release that covered all of the details of today’s show, Steve Singer, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Publisher and Developer Relations, made a statement, clarifying that “with multiple showcases this year, we can continue highlighting the breadth of games and the variety of experiences all types of players can get on Nintendo Switch.” The press release additionally noted that “details about the next Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase will be revealed in the future.” The inclusion of key phrases such as “multiple showcases” and “next Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase” both clearly specify that there will definitely be future Directs this year.

Whether that means that fans will getting one, two, or even three or more Mini Nintendo Directs this year remains to be seen, but anything is possible from Nintendo. With the shortness of this Direct, it could be a sign that more Nintendo Directs in the future will also be shorter in length with Nintendo is aiming for a larger quantity of Mini Directs, over having meatier showcases. It was rumored recently thatNintendo would be changing up its Nintendo Direct format, so this could very well be the start of that change.
Many Nintendo fans were understandably disappointed by the eight-minute-long show, with the Direct’s only major announcements beingthe unveiling of an HD Remaster ofShin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturneand a release window for thelong-anticipatedShin Megami Tensei 5.Little else was announced during the showcase, and many fans were left wondering where all of Nintendo’s games were.
Titles such asMetroid Prime 4, No More Heroes 3,The Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild’s sequel, andBayonetta 3have seemingly been left out in the cold, getting announced long ago with no recent updates in sight.Bayonetta 3seems to be the most wanted of all, with many fans taking to Twitter even before the Nintendo Direct Mini had even started to share in their pessimism in regards to updates for the game.
Eventhe highly rumored and anticipatedSuper Mario 35th Anniversary Collectionwas not seen anywhere in the July Mini Direct, but the confirmation of future Mini Directs ensures a possibility of the title still coming. TheSmash UltimateDLC fighter that was recently leaked by GameStopwas also no where to seen in the Direct Mini, so perhaps another Direct Mini is on the way sooner than fans might think.
