He claimed Vietnam was ready for such new technologies and added that Nvidia was prepared to further invest in the Southeast Asian nation so that its workforce as well as its infrastructure could be improved.
Huang revealed that not only has Nvidia expressed the idea of turning Vietnam into a “second home” to Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, but the company is also set on creating a local legal entity, Vietnamese siteVnExpressreported. In his meeting with Pham, Huang explained that he wanted to set up a chip production center in Vietnam to help the nation develop a semiconductor and AI ecosystem,Vietnam’s state news portalreported. Nvidia recently became the largest chip company in the world, but the production of its semiconductors — like the ones used inNvidia’s gaming graphic cards— is still outsourced to manufacturers like TSMC in Taiwan.
In addition to revealing Nvidia’s plans of making Vietnam into a new home, Huang also said that he wanted to set up a design center in the country. The executive claimed that it was possible for Vietnam to create a million AI engineers. Needless to say, Nvidia is not just an AI company and it is still mostly known as a provider of GPUs.
