The Wano Country arc is the most ambitious arc inOne Pieceso far, and also the longest at the same time. The buildup for this arc began as soon as the Straw Hats entered the New World and met Trafalgar Law on Punk Hazard.

Everything since then has now culminated into the arc that fans are currently witnessing slowly unfold. While the Wano Country arc has, unquestionably, been brilliant, there are quite a lot of things in the arc that still remain a mystery and confuse fans.

With most of the war on Onigashima having wrapped up, a lot of interesting plot threads have been tackled in the arc. While some of them were quite sensible and easy to grasp, others were rather complicated and, to this day, confuse the fans. This list already included the most confusing things about theLand of WanoCountryarc, but, with the newer revelations in mind, a few new ones have been added.
14What Was Zoro’s Magic Medicine?
Perhaps one of the most confusing things that Oda pulled off in the Onigashima war was how Zoro was healed after his battle against Kaido in theWano arc. After breaking his bones, Zoro was given first-aid treatment by Sanji, and, later, the Minks gave Zoro a strange medicine that healed his body completely for a while, only for him to take twice the damage after its effects wore off.
This medicine was introduced out of nowhere and, more than anything, felt like a cheap plot point to get Zoro up and fighting again. How this medicine came up and why nobody else used it still has no explanation at the moment.
13How Did Luffy Return From Death?
In Luffy’s fight against Kaido, he faced a crushing blow for the second time on Onigashima when one of the members of the CP0 interfered in the battle. Distracting Luffy, Kaido was able to land a powerful hit on him in his strongest form, and, apparently, kill him.

However, shortly after, Luffy’s heart started beating again and he awakened his Devil Fruit. Whether Luffy actually died or not remains up in the air. If he did die though, how exactly his Devil Fruit made his heart beat again is yet to be explained.
12What’s Going On With Sanji’s Eyebrows?
During Sanji’s fight against Queen, fans saw his genetic augmentations finally kick in. Sanji awakened an exoskeleton, gained more muscle mass, and received the power of super regeneration.
With all that combined, he got several times stronger and managed to use a skill known as Ifrit Jambe. However, after the fight, Sanji’s augmentations seem to have turned off again, as indicated by the direction of his eyebrows. It is unknown how Sanji’s eyebrows reverted back to their normal state and what that means for his powers going forward.
11Who Was Yamato’s Devil Fruit For?
Yamato ate the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami at some point in his life. According to him, Kaido procured the Devil Fruit and kept it safe but, because of his growing hunger, he ate the Devil Fruit. Interestingly, Kaido mentioned how the Devil Fruit wasn’t actually meant for him at all.
However, what’s strange is that everyone in Kaido’s crew already had a Devil Fruit and so it is quite confusing to know that he was saving the fruit for someone. So far, no answer has been given to the fans in the ongoingWano arc.
10What Happened To The Shichibukai?
As soon as the Second Act of the Wano Country arc concluded, fans found out that the Shichibukai system was finally dissolved, meaning all the former Warlords were wanted by the World Government once again. While fans got to see them being approached by the Navy ships, their fate remains unknown.
After over 70 chapters, there has been no indication of what exactly happened to the Shichibukai, and it seems like the fans won’t find out anytime soon.
9Why Is Kaido In Wano?
Around 20 years ago,Kaido fought Kozuki Odenin a massive war that ended in his victory over the samurai. Five years before that, Kaido had already arrived in Wano and begun strengthening his forces. Why exactly Kaido came to Wano is still unexplained.
When Yamato promised to drive Kaido out of the country, he made it clear that his purpose was to stay in Wano and no other place would do for him. Once again, there is more to Kaido’s words than the fans know, but so far, no further explanation has been given.
8Who Is Yamato’s Mother?
Kaido had a son named Yamato 28 years ago. When the Yonko arrived in Wano, his son came along with him and grew up there. Interestingly, Yamato’s mother hasn’t been revealed in the story so far.
Since Yamato was likely conceived before Kaido came to Wano, Yamato’s mother is probably someone not from the country. The fact that no answers have been provided about his mother so far is quite confusing.
7Who Is Joy Boy?
The legend of Joy Boy is certainly not just tied to Wano Country. Joy Boy was introduced long ago in the Fishman Island arc, however, the Wano Country arc has significant ties to Joy Boy. Kaido himself was thought to be Joy Boy by the likes of King. Judging by his words, Kaido also believed the same about himself at a point.

Yet, Luffy is also thought to be Joy Boy by many. The battle between the two could essentially be described asthe battle of the Joy Boysand it is highly likely that, by the end of the arc, fans will know more about this legend from the Void Century.
6Why Did Wano Close Its Borders?
Wano Country is known to be a place with some incredibly strict rules. No person is supposed to enter the country, and trying to leave is punishable by death as well. While this policy of theirs has continued for centuries, Wano wasn’t always like this.
When Oden reached Laugh Tale, he found out thatWano was open to everyonein the past, but due to the existence of a major power, Wano shut its borders down. Why exactly this happened remains unknown so far.
5Why Is Wano Protected By A Barrier?
The weather surrounding Wano Country is quite strange. According to Kin’emon, Wano is protected by a barrier that prevents most ships from entering the country in the first place. This was evident from when the Straw Hat Pirates entered the country and barely made it out alive.
In fact, Luffy ended up drowning yet instead of dying, he washed up on the shore of Kuri, one of the many regions of Wano. How exactly this barrier works and how it was placed around the country remains to be seen.
